Dry filters probably are probably a better filter, but will be more restrictive.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Time to put a few hundred miles on the 996 and see what it's like R

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks - it was harder than it needed to be, but we'll see how it performs. R

POST 4Original post

Looking forward to hearing your report. Thinking of doing the same thing. Looks awesome!

POST 5Original post

Now Replace the yellow oil cap with a black 997 oil cap.... Do the same with the Blue cap also....

POST 6Original post

Gee boy, that's a mighty Purdy intake you got there !

POST 7Original post

Rick, are you choosing to not oil the filters as to not ruin the MAF or what? Every picture I've seen shows the signature pink oiled filters. From everything I've read the filters are ineffective without oil? If you do, go lite in the oil....

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@Chris996 - I've got a Suncoast session planned for this week - I'll see if I can score them there @Peteresa9 - Generally speaking, oiled filters are considered most attractive for performance intakes because they are less restrictive than dry filters (and you can infer that they also trap less contaminants). Dry filters probably are probably a better filter, but will be more restrictive. ....now I've got some front end groaning that I have to look into.... R

POST 9Original post

Details on the setup? I'm not familiar with this. Thanks! Mike

Looks good to me! Vision Motorsports is going to put one of those on my engine when they do the rebuild. Let us know of your impressions after driving it!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, sometimes having a little discretionary income laying around is a BAD thing I definitely want to do the exhaust next and I'll be interested to see how these two interact. In the meantime, I'm going to put a few hundred miles on it and report back what I think. So far, I would have to say below 3500-4000 rpms, it's subtle and certainly not too noisy. Over 4000 with the accelerator mashed....well, that's a different story R

POST 13Original post

That looks pretty sweet!!!! How does that do in the rain?

Thanks for that! RickMiller - Any plans for a software flash to compliment the upgrades?

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@Thumbie - Too soon to say, although the Fabspeed folks indicated that that wet conditions won't be a problem. I'm in Texas, so I'm not likely to drive in monsoon conditions. If I lived in a wet climate, I probably would have looked at something different. bcrdukes - you bet R

POST 16Original post

Looks nice, but boy... 900.00. Bet it sounds great, enjoy

POST 17Original post

That looks good to me. Fabspeed claims a noticeable increase in both torque (19 ft-lbs) and HP (24 whp). I am very sceptical of their claims at best, but if there is any noticeable gain than $900 doesn't seem to crazy to me especially it improves the sound. Do you have any seat-of-the-pants impressions on performance? The difference likely isn't enough to be noticeable, but it would be nice to get first-hand experience.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@Jscaramella - like I said above - idle hands and a little discretionary income....not a good combination for your bank balance Seat of the pants impressions - I would say too soon to say. I've only had about 10-12 trips and 200ish miles. I would like to get 1000 miles on it to give things a fair shake. I would say that below 4k rpms it is subtle - above 4k was frankly a little scary the first couple of times R

POST 19Original post

Would be awesome if you could post up a few clips for us!

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, I've got almost a thousand miles on the car since installing this and I thought I would give some impressions so far. It was a little more of a pain to install than it should have been - in my opinion. For that kind of money it should fit like a glove and be a snap to get in. I need to play with it some more, but the unit sits so far forward that the front left piece rubs against the latch and there is a (smal) scratch that I hope doesn't turn into a crack or a whole. It isn't nearly as loud as I expected. It's a little more rumble-y at low RPMs, but I doubt you would notice it if you didn't know the switch had been made. Now, over 4k it's very noticeable. I thought it screamed pretty good stock, now it really screams - but again, below 4k I don't know that you'd detect much of a difference. Performance-wise, it feels like you give up a little on the bottom end throttle response to pick up a little on the top end. I have other thoughts here, but I'm going to keep them to myself for now. Lastly, my biggest surprise was better gas mileage. I'm getting about 1.5 more MPGs than before and if anything I've been mashing the accelerator more, not less. Would I do it again - I don't know. Not a no-brainer at the price, but certainly interesting. I do look forward to pairing it with an exhaust later this Spring. R
