After lugging these (heavy) things around for a few days to muffler shops, someone recommended a commercial welder who specialized in stainless steel.

Before I did the right thing and sent mine to Darin Fister, I shopped around locally. Because these mufflers are stainless steel, you need a skilled welder with the proper tools to do it correctly. I had estimates starting at $350, and these guys hadn't done this mod before. On the other hand, Darin has the skill, the tools, and vast experience performing this modification on Porsche mufflers. Ultimately, you will save time, money, and aggravation by going this route. Also, Darin will send you a modded set so you don't have to have your car laid up waiting for them to be done. You give him a deposit which is returned when you perform the swap and send him your old mufflers.
I'm not affiliated with them in any way, just a very satisfied customer.

But unfortunately my actual costs were much higher because I tried to save money and have it done locally. I bought a set of used mufflers for $150 plus $30 for shipping. Then I bought the stainless steel tube that people recommended for another $40. After lugging these (heavy) things around for a few days to muffler shops, someone recommended a commercial welder who specialized in stainless steel. His estimate was for $350, but said that actual price could be more depending on how long it took. And that was with him using the tubes I bought. It's not just about the welding, it's also about the angles and cutting the holes properly.
