Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, does age have any huge effect on brake components? My rears have 9mm left as stated by dealer this past week but have no clue as to when they were done. Doesn't look too new in there. Car has had about 35k put on it since 2003. Was doing my fronts this week but just wanted to pose the question. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Age for pads should not matter only the thickness. One thing I would think about is that brake pad compounds have come along way in 12 years........even for OEM pads. That said with 9mm left (just under 3/8") your rears have a ton of life in them. I wouldn't worry about it.

POST 3Original post

Never came upon any requirement to replace brake hardware based on time. AFAIK there isn't any. Absent any signs of trouble arising from aged components and any signs of any trouble form any other cause you can continue to leave the brake pads in service. (The rear pads might last a long time. While the front brakes on my Boxster needed replacing at around 50K miles, IIRC the original rear brakes on my Boxster lasted nearly 100K miles. The front brakes on my Turbo lasted over 100K miles and the rear brakes, given the lack of wear when the fronts were done, might make it to 200K miles.) Do be sure you follow the 2 year brake fluid (and if a manual transmission equipped car, clutch fluid) flush and bleed service.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Awesome good to know, guess I will sell my new rear rotors and akebono pads Thanks for the input. Will obviously do the new fluid with front brakes
