Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just changed the battery in my 996 and when I hooked up the positive post there was a arc that puzzled me and I made sure the ign was off and that the only light that was on was the one under the hood. I put a meter on the circuit and found that it was pulling 1.15 amps and thought that was a bit much. Does anyone know what it is suppose to be when its at rest. Or does it default to some things on that I can't see or do I have an issue???? Thanks in advance for any help! John

POST 2Original post

When you reconnect the power, you wake up the DME, instrument cluster, etc so it will draw some current. A couple of amps is normal but the draw should tapper to about 50mA within tens of minutes once you close all the doors and lids and lock you car.

POST 3Original post

BTW - you should always connect the positive post first, then the negative post. Sounds like you did it the other way around. I think Ahsai is right about the current draw.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK great guys thanks, I was hoping I didn't have an issue already. And I didn't know about connecting the positive first. I have a bunch of hot rods but this is my first Porsche and I do really Love it!!!!! Thanks again, John
