Suggestion

It generally self bleeds air out the vent valve as it is cooling off for several hours so you won't see changes until the next morning when it's fully cold.

What I have found works well is fill it manually then park it nose down (my driveway is sloped but you could use jackstands on the rear) and let it idle with the cap off.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently replaced my waterpump and coolant tank with a total refill. I followed step by step the coolant refill shown in Pelican Parts 101. I then drove around for 20 miles or so with the pressure release valve on the coolant tank get the revs up. Anyhow, the temp has been fine. Alsways the same at operating temperature. Drove yesterday for an hour, all's fine. Is there anything else I can do to make sure I got the air out of the system? I asked the shop and was told they would have to do a full refill to check. I would rather not waste the new fluid I have in there. If there is anymore things I can check at home, please let me know.

POST 2Original post

You are fine and there is nothing to worry about. Just manually check the coolant level after a few more drives. You can leave the bail wire in the up position for days, since that is it's normal position when hot.

POST 3Original post

Just add as needed. Even when i used the airlift i had to add more a few times.

POST 4Original post

The best thing to do is not be hypersensitive. Take a chill pill. Watch the levels and be mindful of the coolant temps.

POST 5Original post

I have a UView Airlift 55000 a worth while investment to refill coolant.

POST 6Original post

Even with an Airlift I have still had to add a lot of coolant afterwards. What I have found works well is fill it manually then park it nose down (my driveway is sloped but you could use jackstands on the rear) and let it idle with the cap off. It will self-burp pretty well this way. Let it get just hot enough to open the thermostat but not fully hot as it will start belching coolant out (ask me how I know). Then drive for a few days with the vent valve on the reservoir open and check it after each heat/cool cycle and top off. It generally self bleeds air out the vent valve as it is cooling off for several hours so you won't see changes until the next morning when it's fully cold.

LOL I had a similar experience. With the car warmed up I rev'd the engine a little and the coolant dropped significantly. As I picked up my jug to add more the coolant rapidly came back and overflowed the tank. It was a mess. I followed the Pelican DIY also. My first two drives I had to add coolant and then I think I was fine after that.

My experience has been the same as Dan. Using Ahsais draining technique and a vacuum filler I added virtually nothing after initial fill.
