Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'm at 63K miles now and recently replaced the IMS with an LN, RMS, Motorsport AOS, etc.
Leading evidence: 'Replace ims' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace ims' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

04 4s 6speed cab w/o sports exhaust, 43k miles, sells for $34,551 + 5% + shipping. Seems the 4s market is holding up even in this apparent buyers market.
I think BaT is an anomaly, I would be interested to see sales states on pricing outside of that site a few months down the line. I won't complain about cars holding their value but outside of the BaT, there seems to be some good deals popping up outside of there.
I openly admit I overpaid last March when a bought a 21,700 mile 2003 4s coupe 6 speed with factory sports exhaust. A year later I’m beginning to think i was just ahead of the curve.
BaT is so whacky. Seems everyone overpays for everything. I was thinking 25-27 for the silver 4S before the engine surprise. Once that broke Im thinking this sale is dead. I was wrong. Beautiful car.
Just a guess but maybe more people stuck at home as summer approaches equals more potential buyers watching BaT which equals better results.
BaT offers enough data points on 996s that its hard to constantly write results off as outliers.
I was looking at this one the last 20 mins, it was crazy to me how two guys raised the price by over $5k in 5 minutes. And this car is questionable, engine swap with no information on the replacement engine, 8 owners, no ECM info like over revs, etc. and a few other issues. I know I had done well when I got my 4S a year or so ago, but after seen some of these auctions, I think I did very well.
But crap, like the car too much to sell her.
Just a guesstimate but it seems the 4S with 100k are 25k on BaT. As you deduct 10k, you can add 1k. Add 10k, take off 1,000 down to 22k. Top, perfect low mile 30k or low ones max out around 33-37. I was thinking that before and today sort of reconfirmed. convertible/tip reduce 1-2k. Non silver help the price though silver is my favorite color.
Agree/disagree?
Have to admit...I overpaid for my C4S on BAT almost a year ago....$32k with 99k miles.
But only by a few k and it was loaded and came with HREs as well as the OEMs.
I love the car and have no buyers remorse because of a few extra $$$$......but I was also blinded by beauty.
If you don't have buyers remorse than all sounds good to me!
I picked up an 04' C4S in Arctic Silver, 6spd with 42,540 miles and a window sticker of $99,450. Has real good options, 4 previous owners, IMS replaced and is in great shape for $28,750. The body and interior are solid with some scratches/bumps/nicks, but I feel like I got a hell of a deal.
Just patiently waiting for the DMV to open...
I thought i over paid a little bit as well. $33k, but with 15k miles, Tubi exhaust, H&R springs, numeric shifter, GT3 Bucket seats, new tires...feeling good now, but i want to sell and get a TT lol. Its just such a nice car to get rid of. Grass isn't always greener on the other side!! lol
I dropped 25 for a 69k car in Guards red. Leather everything. Since July I will have dumped another 5k into it. IMS, Clutch, Coolant Tank, water pump, oil return tube, front dif Seals.
I would get rid of in a heartbeat to get a second gen Miata (not nearly as good I know) but I guess I will be keeping for a few years. If I can get 20-22k for it when it hits 85k, I'll be happy. Fingers crossed.
Makes me feel good about the $21,500 I spent in November on mine with 78k miles. Makes me even think putting in the FSI 4.0L later this year almost makes fiscal sense 😂. Car runs like a scalded cat as is. No complaints, but Im looking forward to it being ever better 6
months from now.
I am the idiot that overpaid on BaT for the 02 C4S the other day. Got caught up in the Auction and went over budget. You can't take it with you I suppose.
Seller has been great dealing with the multitude of questions on the car and not rushing the final sale. Getting it shipped here in the next few days.
Will need help, so glad to have this group.
4 years ago I bought an 03 C4S from the Porsche dealer with 42K miles on it for 32K OTD. Decently spec for a drivers coupe. I'm at 63K miles now and recently replaced the IMS with an LN, RMS, Motorsport AOS, etc. It is a fun car to drive and although I still want a turbo I just cannot bring myself to getting rid of this car. I will likely add a turbo in 5 years or so.
If I were selling I would likely list at 28K (I think that is reasonable). It will come with everything I've installed H&R RSS coilovers, Tarret monovballs, CCWs, IPD plenum, GT3 TB, Fabspeed catless X pipe, Agency Power catback, JIC/Cross headers, RSS mounts, and some other stuff I forgot about.
Its an auction site and works just like Mecums or any other auction. If the right two people are in the room in the closing minutes... youll pay a premium for not having to shop and instead having cars paraded in front of you. If not, you might get a deal. I just posted BAT historicals below from the past year on 996 C4s cars in the Craigslist thread a couple days ago when talking about how mileage is a big factor:
The only one i recall that actually sold with over 100k on it was this
2003 w/ 111k sold for $25,251
2002 w/ 76k mi sold for $29k
2003 w/ 87k mi sold for $28k
2002 w/ 81k mi sold for just under $24k
2002 w/ 86kmi sold for $28.5k
Mileage and color combo typically command a premium, otherwise, they go for market price... unless two folks like the same car and decide the car is more important than getting a deal.
Regardless of what we all paid for our 996 4s, what i quickly discovered is that the non-Porsche public still sees them as $90,000-$100,000 cars day in and day out. Total strangers make comments out of the blue, whether at a gas station or supermarket parking lot. Meanwhile their cars/trucks probably cost more than i paid, not that i'd ever tell them that.
Ahhhh... your "buyers remorse" will quickly fade away as soon as you start driving it! Remember, these cars sold for close to $100k for good reason. Your price is still a bargain when all else is taken into account.
Only the "Aircooled Guys" will think you're an idiot...
Meh, you "overpaid" by only a little. That Black 4S is sah-weet! You can't take it with you and I'll bet you that I can find much, much sillier things for you to spend a few grand on. Speaking of idiots - I hope you enjoy the new 911 with a
big stupid grin
on your face for as long as you own her.
