Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I noticed that my intake plenum (I think, behind the throttle body, Black y piece) was a little greasy. Then I reached in and touched the hose clamp joint and I had oil on my finger. What could be causing this oil on the outside of the plenum? The oil filler tube looks good. I blew smoke in the engine bay and couldnt see it sucking in anywhere. The oil filler cap was very easy to remove while engine running. I dont have any pooling if oil or have ever had it drop oil on the ground. It is more just sweating oil in this area. Any ideas would be helpful! I am grateful for the advice.

POST 2Original post

Check that the 4 clamps holding that plenum in are tight - they can be a real PITA to get to though. Otherwise there isn't much there that can get that area oily.

POST 3Original post

If its in the drivers side i would guess its the oil full tube or the dipstick o-ring. U didnt think my fill tube was bad until i removed to do some maintenance. It may just have a small crack like mine. As a precausion u would test the aos. I think the high vacuum in mine was causing oil leaks.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. Will try to clean up and tighten those clamps!

POST 5Original post

In normal operation there should be a slight vacuum inside the crank case, and as such you should have to fight to remove the oil filler cap when the engine is idling. Check if the seal on your cap is broken, if not you have a problem that needs attention ASAP.
