Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I do however keep the rubber blade in good shape and check/replace when needed.
Leading evidence: 'Check /' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check /' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

But to run the wires to the front of the car is another issue.

what a waste, just use rain ex and it will lap right off for next to nothing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi folks. One feature I didnt get on my c4 is a rear wiper. It rains a lot here on the East Coast and I am used to having one on my 300td and b6 S4 avant. It really bothers me, more than I would have thought.
whats the level of ridiculousness to add one?
thank you for increasing my visibility on this issue.
I don't think it's ridiculous, but there are a lot of people who have deleted theirs. I wish I had one as I drive rain or shine...but I think you are looking at bodywork that won't be a simple 'plug-n-play' solution.
my brothers early 944 has the wiper mounted in the window so I was hoping that part would be easy. One thing that prompted me to ask is that I see them for sale so often when people are stripping the car for weight.
Should come standard on the c4.
the 996 wiper looks really cheap compared to the 993 rear wiper. ,that would be a nice mod if you could get it too work. Except the 993 is in the rear window glass. Looks so much nicer , some people remove them to look like a GT2 with turbos , anyway I don’t find rear wiper that important and I’m in PA .
I've been back there plenty of times. It wouldn't be hard to put in, just a matter of how much work you are willing to put into it. And then there is the matter of wiring it up. Maybe the wiring is there already, but don't count on it. As for the mechanicals, that would be simple. But you'll need to put a hole in the panel below the windshield for the wiper to attach. Only the back panel needs to be removed to access the area where the wiper assembly is to go. But to run the wires to the front of the car is another issue. All the side trim panels have to come off. I suppose you could just tuck the wires, though. I imagine no more work than putting in a rear camera (which I have done.).
Good luck
I think unless you drive in snow it is ridiculous to install one. what a waste, just use rain ex and it will lap right off for next to nothing. much better mods to do to your car than that.
I bought a 996 4s last year, live in NJ, and drive it year round. I also wanted a rear wiper but car I bought didnt have one. I made inquiries about adding a wiper with little success. After nearly 13,000 miles i can tell you from personal experience that you wont miss it.
This will not be a simple one to do. Besides drilling a hole, you will need a bracket that holds the wiper motor in place. I don't know if that is already installed in all cars but knowing how much car manufacturers like to save every penny, I doubt the install anything extra in these cars.
I have a rear wiper and live in Florida so lots of rain sometimes. I have never used the rear wiper. I do however keep the rubber blade in good shape and check/replace when needed.
we felt pretty lucky to have loaded up on TP at Costco right before the madness. I actually hauled it home in the passenger seat of my 996. I couldnt see the side view.

I was hoping, optimistically, that the mounting and wiring was already there like some other cars. I was prepared to drill but honestly, Rain-ex is a solid idea. Having wagons for so long, I am just really used to having clear rear glass in the rain. Its completely ingrained to turn on the rear wiper with the front. I find the defrost to be pretty worthless compared to my Audi.
