Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used 808bills reminder to keep track of the bolts, and then used billh1963s idea to put the bolts through a piece of cardboard to keep track.

After doing a lot of reading, Im finding out that water pump replacement is recommended every five years regardless of mileage, so this puts my mind at ease for now.
Leading evidence: 'Use 808bills reminder' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend every five years regardless of mileage' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. You should be able to determine if the WP has been previously replaced by looking at the old gasket.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im tackling the water pump replacement and thought members might be interested to see the old pump. Thanks for suggestions from my previous post asking for tips. I used 808bills reminder to keep track of the bolts, and then used billh1963s idea to put the bolts through a piece of cardboard to keep track.
The impeller shows no chipping or breaking. I did not have service records available when I bought this vehicle, so Im not certain if this is the original pump or not (2000 C2 cab). I will be replacing most of the engine bay hoses, serpentine belt, and low temperature thermostat this week. After doing a lot of reading, Im finding out that water pump replacement is recommended every five years regardless of mileage, so this puts my mind at ease for now.

Looneybin- the only minor hangup was that I didnt realize that the old gasket was still attached when trying to remove the pump. I thought the pump wasnt fitting through the bottom but it was just the gasket stuck on. Read my prior post (roughly 6 days ago) and the members gave me some great ideas, and someone posted a great and simple video. I followed the video exactly. The one pesky bolt at roughly the 4 oclock position was indeed a challenge. As someone said, 2 sets of hands are helpful as well as a quarter-inch swivel socket (10mm) for it. The thermostat takes some contorting. Ive only gotten the pump off so far. Putting all the bolts back and torquing them properly is going to be a challenge as well.
One "general rule" tip that I've found works in 90% of cases where you might have different length bolts on a casement like this and forgot to, or dropped your organizer cardboard. Insert each bolt into the holes, but don't threat them in. Once they are all in, you will see how high they stand off the casing and inform you whether you got them right or not. Generally they will all stand off the same distance (or take the same number of threads to seat, if that makes it clearer).
You should be able to determine if the WP has been previously replaced by looking at the old gasket. The original was a one piece design that you have to trim off to install the new one. If your old water pump has its own separate gasket already, then it has been replaced in the past.
Rockhouse, thats a great point, thank you. It was indeed the original pump then. Wow. 20 years old (but only 36k miles).
Looneybin - I got the new pump on. I think if you take your time youll be surprised at how easy this is. Make sure you have an assortment of short and deep-well 10mm sockets - that one bolt at the 4 o'clock position is a bear but doable. I decided to change out all the radiator hoses in the back while Im doing this. Also a new serpentine belt, which is back on. The hoses are more of a challenge but I hope to be back on the road this weekend.
