Suspected cause

I've had exactly the same problem a few years ago and it was caused by the inner tie-rods, it's easy to confirm by driving the car until the noise appears and then try moving the tie-rods by rotating them with a wrench, you can do this without lifting the car although jacking up the front would make it easier.

Suggestion

I doubt rubber bushings can drastically change behavior at these temperatures.

Suggestion

First thing to do is to tighten your spare tire properly ( or take it out to test drive) ......You'd be amazed how many people complain of suspension being worn out/noisy when it is only the spare tire not properly stowed ...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just had my sway bar links replaced and that solved my clunky sound.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a rattly/clunky/loose sound from what seems like the front suspension, but only when it's 90F or higher out. Any ideas on what component is most likely to behave like that? It doesn't create tangible feedback through the steering, just a clunking sound when going over bumps or uneven pavement. When I've had something like this in the past in a different type of car it has come from sloppy front swaybar hardware. I'm suspicious that some bushing in the front end gets too squishy when it's very hot out and allows too much motion, letting something flop around and clunk a little. It's entirely possible that it's not in the suspension at all, and is something just loose in the body, but it definitely feels suspension-related based on where the sound is coming front, and the fact that it happens only over certain kinds of pavement imperfections.

POST 2Original post

Same issue. Usually after a longer drive. Curious to hear suggestions.

POST 3Original post

If I had to guess, Id say its your strut. Theres shock oil inside and - like motor oil - can thin out as temperatures rise. I doubt rubber bushings can drastically change behavior at these temperatures. But post up a video so we can provide some better guesses or take it to a professional.

POST 6Original post

I just noticed this rattle this week, and it's been hot outside. The only time I've noticed it is at slow speed. Transitioning from a driveway to road, poor road surfaces on a street or parking lot. It sounds like rocks rolling around in a plastic container. Does this mirror what others are noticing. I will try removing the spare tire and revisit some of those problem parking lots.

POST 7Original post

Does this happen when turning? Could be the front shock upper bearings are toast. see here https://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-...section=402-00

POST 8Original post

I have this as well, driving me nuts. New sway bar bushings will be going in and I hope that fixes it. Today however I noticed going over a speed bump I felt it in my brake pedal a bit. Everything in my front suspension has been refreshed with the exception of said sway bar bushings and tie rods. Car tracks straight and aligned no problem in the spring. Edit: Really unlikely, but my other thought is a failing wheel bearing?

POST 9Original post

Is this not the coffin arms? I have the same issue and was under the impression those were the cause.

POST 10Original post

Fwiw, I just had my indy go over my suspension parts and few months ago because I had some clicking. No rattle. Just clicking over bumps at slow speed. My tie rods needed to be replaced. Rubber was worn.
