Suggestion

Small things to work on replacing (interior switch, window regulator etc.) and calipers could use refinishing but overall amazing.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

34 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

http://www.ebay.com/itm/291214524059...84.m1435.l2649 2002 C4S coupe, silver on black, tiptronic, 108k miles, appears to be in good condition with recent maintenance sold For $19,100 tonight. I was in on it up to $17,501, but the wife probably would've blown a gasket if I went higher and actually ended up with it.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I buy and sell probably 10 cars per year. At $17,501, I could have driven that car for 6 months and sold it at the auction next spring for a profit easily, or sold it retail. At $20,000, it becomes harder to justify to the missus. It's a hobby for me, along with the auto museum. Sorry , I'm just a car guy.

POST 4Original post

Problem is, car sales on eBay are one of the few categories where a high bid is non-binding. So, no idea if the car really sold at that price. But I agree, good deal if the sale really went through.

+996 and is one of the issues when dealing with car sales through eBay. I believe car sales and one other category isn't legally binding through eBay.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 11585007

But a one legged man would.

POST 8Original post

Buying a car without looking at it in person is a big gamble..

POST 11Original post

That C4S didn’t appear to have the Bose subwoofer box behind the rear seats, I thought this was standard on all C4S’. Also, it wasn’t a particularly outstanding of a “deal” in my opinion.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 11590687

Not a standard feature - mine is another example Sent from my iPhone using Rennlist

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've never seen a C4S sell for under $20k. Anybody got any examples?

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 11590754

Funny you should ask ... saw this in the local Craigslist a couple days ago: https://albany.craigslist.org/cto/4589001696.html

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, I think that's an even better deal - basically the same mileage, but with a 6-speed instead of a tip. That car probably won't last very long on the market. I would've pegged the value on car at about $23k. I guess that's the difference between someone who actually wants to sell a car and someone who's trying to get $34k from a Mk I like we saw in the other thread. Edit: Holy crap, I just noticed that this ad was posted 26 days ago. Anybody near Albany interested in doing a Rennfax on it and reporting back?

POST 16Original post

SOLD. Drove it last week and paid for it yesterday.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Damn - I was picturing myself driving that car already!!!

Two things you might want to do if you're local to the Albany area: 1) Get on Porsche of Clifton Park's mailing list for events. They host a monthly Cars & Coffee during the more hospitable months. The next C & C is September 13 ... IIRC it includes a drive up to the Saratoga Auto Museum. Here's the August announcement, which has the contact information on it: http://porscheofcliftonpark.com/Cars...17/special.php 2) Consider joining the Porsche Club of America (PCA): https://www.pca.org/ We are in the Hudson Champlain Region; our Web site is here: http://hcp.pca.org/

I'm actually in Western Mass. Thank you for the info though. I'm definitely going to join PCA. Pics to come soon....this is my first 996 and my fourth Porsche over the years.

POST 23Original post

UPDATE: Car runs great. Zero problems and a daily driver for years. Small things to work on replacing (interior switch, window regulator etc.) and calipers could use refinishing but overall amazing. Sold with four new snows on separate wheels and four new tires mounted.

Hello everyone, I am the guy that won the auction. A friend of mine flew out to Minnesota and drove the car back to Chicago. Close to 500 miles without any incidents. Cheers, Pete

So, Geoffrey drove it home for you? ETA: Actually looks like TWO people bought this car??

POST 30Original post

I don't know what this means? I bought the car and it's sitting in my garage.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 11605216

Sorry, I am confused as well. I was only saying this due to post #16.

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 11605170

The thread started with an eBay auction (Chicago Pete's car), then derailed into a Craigslist auction (GeoffreyAugusto's car). 2 different cars and two different satisfied customers!

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, thanks to ebay, we know what Chicago Pete paid for his silver C4S. Assuming geoffreyaugusto didn't pay full asking price ($20,000) for his black C4S from craigslist, that's two C4S's selling for under $20k, each with just over 100k on the odometers. That's a whole lot of car for the money.
