Reported cause
The Bridgestone tires proved to be quite good, indistinguishable from the Continental tires.
Leading evidence: 'quite good, indistinguishable' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'quite good, indistinguishable' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install soon' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The fronts are getting pretty worn -- they've been on now for over 40K miles -- so I'll have new ones fitted soon.

I used a phone app for actual speed measurement and with the somewhat worn PS previously on the car the speedo measured 4 MPH high at 70 MPH (apparently the standard speedo bias).

Suggestion
When I need to replace the rears the ABS ratios will be at their maximum from stock, with somewhat taller rears in proportion to the fronts.

Suggestion
Based on my experience with my two cars I'd probably select Michelin tires if the price was the same or nearly the same as the other brands of tires -- Michelin tires appear to be marginally better in that they seem to deliver slightly better tire life and as they get older and worn make less noise -- but any of the 4 brands I've used I'd accept with no concern.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1. Is there a significant difference between the various pilot pen PS2 and the Pilot Pen super sport other than that the PS2s cost about $500 more?
2. Anyone have any experience good or bad with the Bridgestone Potenzas?
3. The Kuhmos?
4. The perelli Pzeros?
Car is a daiky driver that needs to perform in wet but diesnt need all season tires.
Thoughts?
Can't help with #1.
I've run Bridgestone tires (N-rated natch and all other tires I've used have been N-rated too) on my Turbo. The car started out with Continental tires. These were a good tire. Switched to Bridgestone tires for I do not recall the reason now other than maybe that is what the dealer (Sacramento CA Porsche dealer) had in stock when I stopped in to get a new set of tires. The Bridgestone tires proved to be quite good, indistinguishable from the Continental tires.
I've never run Kuhmos tires and have no experience with any non N-rated tires.
A while back I switched back to Pirelli tires from Michelin tires -- Michelin tires were back ordered with months estimated before they'd become available again -- on my Boxster. The Pirelli tires are still good tires -- the car came from the factory with Pirelli tires. The fronts are getting pretty worn -- they've been on now for over 40K miles -- so I'll have new ones fitted soon. (As soon as I get my Turbo back with its new rear tires.)
My experience is all 4 tire brands are ok in the rain -- when new but their effectiveness in the rain drops off as they wear -- but are not really rain tires. As a result in the wet I slow down and give myself plenty of safety margin. Both cars have very wide tires -- the Turbo tires are huge -- and both cars will hydroplane even with new tires if the speed is too high or the water too deep.
The only tires on your list that I have tried are Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and Pirelli P-Zero. Both provide excellent traction. I found the Pirellis to wear slightly faster than the Michelins and also to become noisy as they approach the end of their life. This isn't the case with the Michelins. The only "cheap" tires that I've tried on the 996 are Sumitomos. I won't ever do that again. I really like the way the car performs with the PS2 and I will continue to buy them.
Bridgestones have been good to me - started with SO2-As (CPO car came with these) and now have SO-4 pole position. They have served well with daily driver and DE use. Likely will try the Bridgee RE-11 next. Since the tires don't last all that long on the rear anyway, thought I'd see if the RE-11s are a noticeable improvement. The cost difference is negligible.
I have the Michelin Pilot Super Sports and think they are outstanding. They're fairly quiet and have very good grip on dry roads, but what sold me was getting caught in a violent thunderstorm. 3 inches of rain in a half hour, standing water on the roads, and the car tracked straight and true. It helps that my tires only have a couple thousand miles on them ... but still, I was driving through a
lot
of water.
As you've guessed, I would buy these again in a heartbeat. The PSS is a replacement for the PS2 ... I never had the PS2 so I can't compare them, but the PSS is less expensive and has a higher treadwear rating.
FWIW, the PSS is not N-rated, though Michelin is said to be in the homologation process with Porsche to get the N rating.
PS2s and SS are both excellent tires.
PS2s are the better of the 2 dry tires.
The SS are better in the wet, cheaper, and quieter. With very good dry performance.
Conti's were the best I ever had for the needs you describe. Great wet & dry weather performance, lasted a long time and best of all quiet on the freeway.
Falken Azenis FK453 on my c4s. Couldn't be happier. Great road noise, seems great for daily driving so far although I haven't been through winter with them yet and I live in a no snow region. Have a cts-v with PS2 which are good tires also but wear much faster and cost nearly twice as much.
All in from discount tire direct I think I got certs and lifetime mount balance for $800, sold my **** Khumos for $120 on craigslist to a mustang tool making my total out of pocket less than $700 for a daily driver.
There is a thread on here froma guy who put them on a year ago on his daily driver which convinced me to try them. Just something to consider of you daily drive and don't race a ton. Y speed rating, 300 tread wear rating.
I have POS Generals that came with the car when I bought it, but soon I'll be getting Michelin PSS but the only problem is that they don't make 285/30R18s so I'm going to go with 285/35R18s for the back and I'll make the fronts 235/40R18s do I won't get ABS faults.
Thanks for all of the advice. The general consensus seems to that the Perellis are not worth the money, the Micheline Super Sports are expensive but always a good bet and that you either love or hate the Continentals, Bridgestones and Falkens. There are people who swear by the Falkens and others who hate them. Considering the price, I would love to be in the first group.
I think am I going to go for the Michelin Super Sports. They seem to be the safest bet. They are not the most expensive option and I have literally never read a bad review of them.
This is exactly what I did for mine (C2) and so far everything is good. When I need to replace the rears the ABS ratios will be at their maximum from stock, with somewhat taller rears in proportion to the fronts.
I used a phone app for actual speed measurement and with the somewhat worn PS previously on the car the speedo measured 4 MPH high at 70 MPH (apparently the standard speedo bias). With the new PSS the speedo measured 3 MPH high, so as far as I can tell the actual diameter change was only somewhere around 1.5%.
The traction (in dry) of the PSS is far far superior to the relatively old (5-7 year) PS that were previously on the car, although that has little bearing on current tire candidate comparisons.
