Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am planning to replace my AOS for a motorsport AOS at my 996 C2 2002. I don't want to drop the engine and trans completely but I need to drop it as much as possible. I have replaced the AOS once before but then I didn't remove the cross member under the engine/trans. It was a pain to do the job!! If I remove the cross member under the engine/trans how much can I drop the engine without removing to many hoses/cables? Which hose/cable is the first to stop the lowering of the engine? Robert

POST 2Original post

I would venture a guess that either the coolant hoses or the air conditioner compressor hoses. Also need to unplug the O2 sensor cables if you are dropping it that far.

POST 3Original post

I'm thinking you might get a couple 2 or 3"....but there is only one way to find out.

POST 4Original post

Just took off the intake, hose, and slide the ac some. Mine was cracked:

POST 5Original post

So no need to drop the engine? Easy enough job?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

On the 996 mk 1 the bolts for the AOS are accessible from the wheel housing but not on the 996 mk 2 (mine is a mk 2). The bolts for the AOS on the mk 2 are inserted from the top... I have replaced the AOS once without dropping the engine much but I am not doing that again. I want to drop the engine at least 8 inches or in that vicinity. Robert

POST 7Original post

Order new intake and throttle body gaskets. If they leak afterward, you get to do it again.

POST 8Original post

I did mine while my transmission was out for a clutch replacement. It was a bit of a pain but entirely manageable. Doubt this helps you here but maybe for any future readers of this thread it might.
