Also, does this mean I might run into trouble when deciding to install something like the PCCM+ in the future?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Going down my list of to-dos with my new-to-me 99 996.. I was cleaning the front battery compartment/drain holes, and discovered that one of the previous owners cut out a bunch of audio cables when (I assume) installing the current aftermarket Clarion CZ309A media unit. The audio otherwise works perfectly fine in all 4 speakers. The car didnt have any audio upgrades from the factory, when I look at the build sheet. Also in the trunk space, theres nothing like an amplifier that Ive seen some other cars (behind the spare tire). Any idea what these cut cables are, and what purpose they mustve served before? Also, does this mean I might run into trouble when deciding to install something like the PCCM+ in the future? Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

I would guess that there used to be an aftermarket amplifier in the frunk and the previous owner cut the cables and removed it. The 3 sets of 4-wires were likely for the speakers in the dash, doors, and rear. If it was my car, I'd trace those wires to see where they lead and remove them all. If removed properly, there would be no impact on installing a PCCM (or any head unit) in the future.
