I have used Stead Porsche for service (and even bought a new Cayman S there in early '09) with good results in the past but I haven't been there in over a year may be two.

Its prices weren't all that low either but maybe things have changed for I was there last 4 maybe 5 years ago.

I used Kahlers in Dublin a few times -- service was good other than I didn't like the shop's insistence on using the wrong oil for my car and its refusal to use the proper oil that I was willing to supply.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All,
Have a good friend who owns a 2000 996 with 31,000 miles. It's time for service, and he has had enough of the dealership shuffle.
Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in his area: Oakland to Pleasanton?
Thanks,
Ed
Owner of air-cooled cars, so out of my element here
I haven't tried them, but they would most likely be my go to shop if anything happened to me in the East Bay.

I know other people that like Kahler's, no experience with them either.

My Porsche indy mechanic experience is limited and what I have of it is out of date.
I used Kahlers in Dublin a few times -- service was good other than I didn't like the shop's insistence on using the wrong oil for my car and its refusal to use the proper oil that I was willing to supply. I was told the shop needed the money it made selling oil to help keep the shop in business.

Some years ago a dealer moved from Oakland to Livermore and I have used that dealer for almost all my Porsches' servicing needs.
I'm quite pleased with quality of the service there.

Some owners use Eurotech -- there's one on N. 1st Street in Livermore -- but I have no direct experience with that shop.
There's another indy shop in Pleasanton, SAS German Auto (on California Ave), that was recommended to me but I've never used it.
Sincerely,
Macster.
What about Porboys in Oakland ? They were PCA autocross sponsor last year and a number of guys used them for service .... I don't have personal experience. Tony Heyer in Mountain View is definitely worth the drive ....or +1 for Flintworks in Campbell....
Off the beaten path, but I've been going to Geoff at Powerhouse Designz in Concord. Started going a few years back with my A4 1.8T and GS300. He's been great for 997.1 services; I've had him do oil changes, transmission fluid service, spark plugs, and recently had brakes and rotors done. He really friendly and has reasonable hourly rates.
He also allows for outside parts to be brought in like when I was able to source PTX for the transmission.
Hey guys, I have 1997 993 4S and I want to get a few mods. New steering wheel, exhaust, suspension, etc. Any recommendations in the East Bay Area, would be great if someone knows of a good honest shop in Livermore of Pleasanton?
