Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, I am going to get a bike rack for the P-car. The sweetie has 190K miles and is running like the dream she is. I got a new bicycle and decided we will travel to a couple beautiful Southern Cal places and I will post my bike on her. I look up bike P-car bike racks and just the cross members are almost $800 then I have to invest another couple hundred for a bike rack itself. I check out the Seasucker and it's $280 complete and allows me to mount it partially on the rear window and roof. It has a self pump vacuum system on each sucker and it looks like it is solid. Question: Anybody have any experience with these? - Fast Frank

POST 5Original post

i'm getting one of these too. Seems like a good and cost effective solution.

POST 6Original post

I just bought the mini bomber, I actually used it on my wife's Q5 on the way down to FL, but I did mount it on my car and put one bike up (did not take pics with the bike up).

POST 8Original post

Hi - I just bought the mini-bomber for my 997 and I'm very concerned about where to mount the front section. This is the one for two bikes and it has 4 suction cups, sort of in an arc. I'm posting here bc it looks like there are some users here - so TIA for any advice. I was hoping to mount the front section behind the sunroof, but that would put the rear wheel of the bike over my retractable spoiler, so that's not going to work. It looks like I have a few choices for mounting the front of the seasucker: - on the front windshield, but then my wipers won't work - they'd hit the suction cups - on the sunroof, but the seasucker manual suggests to mount away from the center of the roof, near the front or rear glass bc the roof has more stiffness at those edges. It also states that you're at your own risk if you mount to the sunroof. I'm a bit worried about that, but maybe German engineering will prevail and I won't have issues? I can't mount it in front of the sunroof bc the suction cups would cross over the seems and they won't seal. Again - TIA for any advice Jack

POST 9Original post

Hi Jack, Just from own experience, you can see my pic shows my tri bike mounted in my post, i have the front cup mounted on the sunroof. Never had an issue and easily exceeded the speed limit over hundreds of miles. At first i used to stop and check it out to make sure it was still fine, but stopped doing it once i realized it wasn't going anywhere.

POST 10Original post

I have the mini-bomber, and when I mount it behind my sunroof, my rear wheel is on the rear window. Works perfect.

I saw that and it looks great. I see you have one cup on the sunroof and the other two behind it. I'd have 4 suction cups on the sunroof... The guy at my LBS said he uses his sunroof on a Lexus and it works fine. I suppose I'll go that route, if it won't fit behind

Ha! It does work! I test fit my old bike and didn't think it would, but maybe I wasn't all the way up by the sunroof. Here's a quick shot of how it's set up now - Thanks!! Here's the rack, just behind the sunroof, and the spoiler raised. This is going to work! This is with the front of the SeaSucker rack on my windshield

I like mine. Buy with confidence. ps, works best in warm climes

POST 14Original post

One thing to watch out for is mounting the bike in the garage and backing out or driving in with the bike mounted. Obviously depends on the garage door height, but mine is just a standard 7' door and the bike saddle sits up just a bit too high.

POST 15Original post

Reviving an old thread here, but where do you stash the front wheel?

POST 16Original post

i stash it behind the front seats

POST 17Original post

Cannot stress enough how impressed I've been with my seasucker racks. I made trips from New York to Miami and back again a year later (in an old BMW then a new Mustang), often reaching speeds as high as 90 mph. Works perfectly in rain or shine and for hours on end. Just make sure that if your bike has a freewheel, you lock the pedals in place, otherwise you risk the pedals striking the roof.
