Yes, I've had to replace my MAF sensor, and only used a OE Porsche MAF sensor because the DME/ECU depends on the sensor to make the engine run right.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Installed a new NGK MAF sensor and got a bunch of misfire codes on start-up. It seemed to get better but I didn't let it run too long. Clearly the new sensor is providing different data to the ECU. My question is does that mean the old sensor was wrong and adjusted for? Is the new sensor wrong? I have always trusted NGK as a brand but IDK. It was likely too lean condition

POST 2Original post

What was your reason for replacing the MAF sensor? Only use an OE Porsche MAF sensor. I know they are expensive but that is really the only correct choice. Yes, I've had to replace my MAF sensor, and only used a OE Porsche MAF sensor because the DME/ECU depends on the sensor to make the engine run right. Anything other than that is a crap shoot... The other thing is the DME/ECU adapts to the signals from the MAF sensor. Installing a new one you need to reset the adaptations by disconnecting the battery. The DME/ECU will reset to default values and then as you drive it adapts.

POST 3Original post

There has been a rash of posts in the last 6 months of multiple bad mafs or just aftermarket ones not jiving with our cars. One guy in a boxer has 3 in a row bad.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It seems like that's a lot of adaptation that would have to take place. I will try disconnecting the battery tho

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18371751

Yeah I wonder if they were bad or just needed a different adaptation

POST 6Original post

Ive never seen a part listing for a NGK sensor. whats the part #? The Bosch I put in 3 years ago has never had a problem.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 18372337

Same here. Bosch in 18 months ago and have had zero issues.

POST 8Original post

More info needed before I cast an opinion like year model, miles, history ,codes before and after, MAF part number ect......and even actual MAF and Fuel Trim values if you have them

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18372422

It's been running fine and It threw an 0420 the other day but I have 200 cell cats with 90 degree things installed for a couple hundred miles. A couple people suggested I should try a MAF sensor and I was wanting to do that anyway because I imagine it's original with 90 k miles (2002). I thought I would try a NGK because I trust their products and bosch has hosed me with 02 sensors before on another vehicle. Anyway the codes were 300 302 305 etc. The part number is MG 0029 33519
