Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Replace by jake at 47k' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'maybe a piece of' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace by jake at 47k' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Couldve been something as simple as a bad water pump prior to my ownership, (1 owner car) but I suspect maybe a piece of that couldve blocked and oil passage and slowly starved the bearing of oil.

Suggestion
He is reffering to running the motor hot or have an internal hot spot due to a clogged coolant passage.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

On way to work get vibration and flashing cel.
thought maybe coil, indy said spark their, but low compression
Will pull engine later this week.
Other than vibs and low power no other symptoms
?
What about a leak down test(for what it's worth), a boroscope(at least through the spark plug hole) before yanking the engine and what did the plugs look like?
Any other noise when it occurred? No CEL?
We really need more information. 3.4L or 3.6L? Did the indy read the code? What was it? I understand likely misfire, but there are different codes. From the title, I'm assuming they did a compression test? What were the other cylinders? Which was 60psi?
They're going straight to pulling the engine?! Wow. Did they scope the cylinders? What is their plan once the engine is pulled?
Could be as simple as a broken valve spring........
BUT us "internet troubleshooters" don't even know if it is a 3.4 or a 3.6 or if it is even an M96 ???
Maybe post year model, engine size, mileage , and any related history would get better results...
2000 c2, 3.4
original engine replaced by Jake at 47k. Engine coolant leak and seizure.
now have total of 158k, so 111k on next engine.
could not get meaningful results with scope.
Infy feels it is a valve.
He cant start on it till the end of this week.
Last year I had a bizarre misfire similar to what you are describing aboveone day out while driving my 01 3.4 car. I was getting P0300, and P0304/306 codes. Compression was good however, the plugs coils brand new, cylinders were scoped and everything looked perfect, ims was retrofitted a year prior. After this bizarre event, and further digging, I was able to get my car to my local shop I use for everything. We found that one of the rod bearings was beginning to let go, and the mains didnt look great either. Ive maintained and cared for the car for many years, and was surprised this was the issue I was facing. We did a full tear down, and full rebuild. All new rod bearings, arp bolts, new main bearings a magnafluxed crank, all other wear items, vario cam pads sensors, timing chain guides etc. while in there. Couldve been something as simple as a bad water pump prior to my ownership, (1 owner car) but I suspect maybe a piece of that couldve blocked and oil passage and slowly starved the bearing of oil. I mention this because the previous owner did mention it went out (and this is why Ill preventively change mine out every few years from here on for cheap insurance.) I hope you have something far more minor, the only thing that concerns me is the lower compression mentioned in one of your cylinders. Please keep us updated, hope you get everything sorted, the 3.4 cars are so enjoyable to drive in my opinion.
Quoting: "...bad water pump prior to my ownership, (1 owner car) but I suspect maybe a piece of that (
I.e. the water pump?)
couldve blocked and oil passage and slowly starved the bearing of oil."
Not sure I follow you but a broken-off piece of water pump vane cannot block an OIL passage but only a coolant passage..
ETA @OP maybe a dislodged/dropped valve seat prevents a valve from fully closing.
He is reffering to running the motor hot or have an internal hot spot due to a clogged coolant passage.
These things will cause internal issues to eventually pop up.
I would deff pull the valve covers and maybe the heads. my guess would be a valve spring.
Yes, I shouldve clarified that better, with the water pump impeller blocking coolant passages and creating hot spots leading to wear of the moving internals in the engine. OP, hope the best for you, keep us posted. If they go any further into the engine for any reason other than just removing the heads, Id proactively do the variocam pads and cam chains (at the very least) as these can definitely have wear at that mileage.
