I replaced the petrol on another car at home now that had been standing still for 2 1/2 years after various mechanical repairs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hi, I own is 992 Targa from 2003 model. Due to the Covid 19 situation, it has been standing still for 2 years, but now I want to use it. Want to run the engine on the starter motor to circulate the oil and get up the oil pressure before I start it What can I do to prevent it from starting? After 2 years, I assume that there is no petrol in the pipes. How about removing the fuse for the fuel pump? Just remember not to turn on the ignition because then the petrol pump will start :-) Anyone know what fuse goes to the fuel pump? Is it a good idea or do you have another way to do this. Are there other things I should do. When I put it away 2 years ago, it was serviced with new oil and filter. Need help and advice from you. Appreciate all the help here. Thanks Regards

Norwegian... I own is the 992 Targa from the 2003 model. Due to the Covid 19 situation, it has been idle for 2 years, but now I want to use it. Do you want to run the engine on the starter motor to circulate the oil and get the oil pressure up before I start it What can I do to prevent it from starting? After 2 years, I assume there is no gasoline in the pipes. How about removing the fuse for the fuel pump? Just remember not to turn on the ignition because then the petrol pump starts :-) Anyone know what fuse goes to the gas pump? Is it a good idea, or do you have another way to do it. Sorry, I wrote in Norwegian, have corrected now. I am in Norway, thinking Norwegian and writing in Norwegian

Generally the starter will not affectively produce enough pressure to lube the system. It is accepted practice by a few engine builders kn this side if the pond to start the car and then shut it down as soon as u see the oil pressure guage rise. Do this 2-3 times then u r good. If u want to just use the starer pulling the fuel pump fuse is a good way to do it. Sorry dont have my diagrams so i cant tell u which relay or fuse to pull.

POST 7Original post

^^What he said^^ Just start it up and when it fires shut it off. Do this 3 or 4 times and then let it run. Do not idle the car but go for a smooth drive keeping the RPM's below 3000.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay, start it up and stop. Do it 2-3 times. Sounds good. Thanks

Did you use some kind of fuel stabilizer product before parking the car? Two years might make some stale gasoline!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17667136

No, there was no plan to leave it for 2 years. Have not had access to 996 during this period so it will be exciting to see it again. Have been locked in a garage and hope it looks the same as I parked it. More dust is probably there so a proper wash needs it. I replaced the petrol on another car at home now that had been standing still for 2 1/2 years after various mechanical repairs. Gasoline it was damn and "dead". Not good at all. It is important to have a fuel stabilizer in the petrol for storage

POST 11Original post

To be safe, I would drain the fuel and replace it with new gasoline.

DO THIS!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Injectors could likely use a cleaning as well. Replace the filter and the pickup screen, I'd take a look in the tank.. Ugly stuff can grow in tired fuel.
