I'm currently running an FVD exhaust, it's a tad quiet, thinking of running high flow cats to get better sound and maybe a +1 hp lol.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone have ones they are running and like? I'm currently running an FVD exhaust, it's a tad quiet, thinking of running high flow cats to get better sound and maybe a +1 hp lol. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I just had Soul Performance Sports Cats added to my 03 4s which has factory sports exhaust. Definitely adds a nice and noticeable tone to the lower rpms, and when the factory sports exhaust kicks in it amplifies that tone as well. No complaints at all.

POST 3Original post

I have 200cell from TopGear. From UK, and inexpensive, but they DO throw a CEL. I had to install O2 spacers. Not happy about that. Otherwise they are well made and do add some nice exhaust noise. But in retrospect, I would have gone a different direction.

I am running FVD 200 cell cats and sport exhaust with stock headers. Plenty of sound with mine and great durability. What FVD exhaust do you have.

POST 5Original post

Im running a Top Gear X pipe (54mm stock piping diameter) with 200cell cats, FVD Headers, and small resonators I decided to incorporate to a muffler bypass pipe, no actual muffler. They definitely amplify the sound a lot, wake up the car a bit, and save a ton of weight. I did this all with intake mods IPD plenum GT3 TB and a retune. Depending on how loud you would like to go, you could consider a set up like this. Theres a clip on YouTube with a 996 GT3 with an M&M race exhaust, I believe it has 100 cell cats and a larger resonator, my car sounds surprisingly quite similar even with the M96 3.4 engine. If you browse FVDs website, they also offer an M&M exhaust for our cars that can have 100/200 cell cats and a large resonator. I wouldve bought that setup if I knew it was available vs doing my own.

POST 6Original post

I have Top Gear 200cel cats as well. No CELs. Added extra bark at WOT. Don't think it added any HP.

No cels with mine either after almost 2 yrs. If I were ever to go catless this system intrigues me https://www.fvd.net/us-en/RES9960500...m-headers.html

FVD makes some very good stuff. I have had my 200 cell cats and sport muffler since 2007, and it is still working great. But I do know that I am on borrowed time most likely with the cats. Would like to get one more year out of them which will give me enough time to figure out my exhaust set-up. Quite a few more choices at FVD and the industry in general. Seems that header technology may have been refined a bit. In 2007, most were recommending keeping the OEM headers and doing cats and mufflers.

I also remember years back-hearing to always stick with the stock headers, and focus on the cats, and free flow muffler for sound. FVD, Fabspeed, Soul performance, and the top gear headers look identical to some of the other mentioned too. I’d be willing to say no power is lost with these brands, and maybe a touch more is gained way up in the rpm range. Also, the above products look to all have excellent flanges, merge collectors, properly bent equal length tuning. It would be pretty cool, to pair those FVD headers, with that catless system in the link above. Without starting a debate, it also comes in 100 and 200 cell catted versions. Maybe the 100 cells would be a great in between and closest to a catless, with less tq loss?

I have been thinking the same. Someone on RL most likely has that set-up. Let's hope they comment about it.

Im hoping someone does too. The closets thing I currently have to it, are the 200 cell x pipe resonators, no mufflers and the FVD headers. Seat of pants is definitely a little better. Id also love to know what that FVD system sounds like with their incorporated larger resonators and 100 cell cats. Their X Pipe cross section looks excellent for scavenging too.
