Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Turned my car on today, heard a weird rattling noise (like the previously described impending IMS sound... tooth in can) which went away when I drove car home. 5 hours later I looked under car and saw some clear orange tinged fluid dripping from here. what is it? this is the rear of the car under the engine. POST 2Original post

Rattling noise, followed by the coolant leak= water pump.

POST 4Original post

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ra3bswk0meg I would change the thermostat and coolant while I was in there. Two of the 7 bolts holding the water pump are longer then the other 5 so make notes where they came from. I changed to a lower temp thermo but that was just my preference.

POST 5Original post

That's most likely your water pump going out. Swap it out with a new one - plop in a low temp thermostat while you're at it.

POST 6Original post

Don't drive it much if it is loose enough to rattle. The plastic impellers can hit the engine and break off. If that happens they will migrate into the engine and get stuck at the first narrow passage they come to. When that now restricted passage does not flow coolant there will be localized overheating eventually causing $$$ engine damage.

POST 7Original post

Take off the serp. belt and see if you can manually turn or wiggle the water pump pulley. If so, don't start it again - you WILL break off impeller blades and suck them throughout the block and cooling system.
