So... it turns out, in his infinite wisdom, the previous owner of my 996 decided to put 100w bulbs into the dipped beam. He can't have used his headlights since putting them in though...
As you can imagine, with the bad weather and darker evenings, I've had the headlights on. Unbeknown to me, this caused the lense to become burned. I noticed a small about of "browning" in a localised area that I thought was getting worse (or was I being paranoid?) so I took the headlight unit out to investigate why the lens was getting burnt and found the high power bulbs in there. In the short term, I've swapped out the original 55w bulbs from the high beam and put the 100w bulbs in their place.
So... my question is this; can I replace just the headlight lense without having to replace the whole (expensive) unit?

If you can find some, yes, as they do come apart as a separate piece but for all that trouble, you might as well do a projector conversion which is easy once you have the headlight apart.
Projector conversion cost can be anywhere from slightly over $100 to $400 depending on what type of quality and trim you're after. This will yield a lot better output if you go HID w/ projectors.
Since looking at the Xenon upgrade thread that Bill posted here, I've been trying to find an alternative source in the UK... to no avail.
I'll contact Fred (could you pass me his contact details please Bill) and see what kind of money he's after to ship to the UK...
