Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Make sure all flanges are cleaned before putting on the new gasket.

Suggestion
Might want to verify you're using the correct length serpentine belt and check the tensioner pulley - too much tension on the water pump pulley could cause the bearing to fail prematurely...
Leading evidence: 'Clean before putting' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check tensioner pulley - too much tension' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Might be worth changing your serpentine belt when you have it off the engine.

Suggestion
I would use an OEM replacement with a plastic impeller.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So later last summer my WP went out, classic leaking from the bearing so I flat bedded it home and put the brand new Peirburg pump and 71 degree t stat in. Well I was underneath my car doing a bit of a look see and noticed a bit of a coolant stain on the bottom of the pump and a semi dried up spot on one of the pump body cast ribs just below the pulley. So out came the filter assembly and I took off the belt to give it a better look, pump spins freely with no noise or excess play visible, but if I wiggle the pulley in and out I can hear a little (cant see it though) play.
Anybody else have a car that eats pumps? I got 4000km out of this one and the last one did only 30 000 and 2 years, which seems short to me.
Anybody have a recommendation for a brand of pump to get?
Peirburg is the manufacturer of the part in the Porsche box. Exact same part. Different box.
I don't think you'll find a better one. Every once in a while everyone makes a bad part.
Must have had a bad bearing or a bad seal. Bummer, but your next one is unlikely to fail in such a short time.

There are 7 bolts holding the WP... 2 of which are longer than the other 5 and must go back in the correct place. If not, the longer ones will tighten, but not all the way to the flange. This could make the pump slightly uneven in seating. This could cause the slightest of misalignment with the serpentine belt putting pressure on the WP pulley. That's the only possible explanation I can see to cause 2 water pump bearings to wear out so quickly. A pump should be good for 70,000 miles. Some of the bolts are really hard to see and could have gone in the wrong places. I do not profess to be a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination. Only trying to help you solve your problem. Might be worth changing your serpentine belt when you have it off the engine. Also all other pulleys at the front for spin and play. The gasket does not need a sealant and the bolts should be not over tightened (hand tight plus a bit) so you do not crush the gasket. If the bolts are in wrong it could leak there. It may just be your imagination that the pulley has play. Make sure all flanges are cleaned before putting on the new gasket. No sealant is required or advised.
