If your hungry key is deformed/cracked you could change all of the electronics to the other case and see if it behaves.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Well, DB, I turned the key twice to the left just before I posted this, and it didn't work.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The remote operation on both of my keys doesn't work anymore. Well, one works, but it burns through batteries in 24 hours. I don't really care as I just put the key in the door. However, it's really annoying when I have a passenger, as only the drivers door will unlock with the key. Is there a way to program the drivers door to unlock the other side with the key? I've searched this site but haven't found anything in this regard.

POST 2Original post

Huh. 99 C2 - When I use my key to unlock the car the passenger door also unlocks (my remote died years ago so I always use the key). So maybe it is a programming thing. Have you tried turning the key to unlock twice?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, DB, I turned the key twice to the left just before I posted this, and it didn't work. However, I just went out and tried to unlock the car again, just twisting the key once, and voila! Both doors now open! Must have reprogrammed it by accident!

POST 4Original post

I have two working remotes. One started to eat batteries also. It turned out to be the case was cracked above one of the buttons and was holding the button down. I bought a used key on EBay for $30 and put all of the guts from the cracked case key and all works fine again. If your hungry key is deformed/cracked you could change all of the electronics to the other case and see if it behaves. There is also a fix that was written up in Excellence a couple years ago. If the switch is broken and will not return on it's own. You can get new switches from Digikey.com . See post #9 https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ob-switch.html
