Before all this I called the wheel company first asking about checking/straightening the wheels.

For refinish only without significant repair, overnight is the typical timeline.

Anyhow, I have a local franchise alloy wheel repair specialist couple miles from the house.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

The guys that worked there seemed very knowledgeable - good communication
For anyone thinking of getting wheels refinished, here is my experience and results.
I posted previously in another thread I now cant find - Discount tire told me two tire balances ago my rear wheels appeared to be bent and were having trouble balancing. I was in the last year before new tires so I elected not to do anything at the time. Plus, I didnt really beleive they were bent. Anyhow, I have a local franchise alloy wheel repair specialist couple miles from the house. Got a new set of tires during black friday sales. Car went up on jack stands last week and wheels came off.
Before all this I called the wheel company first asking about checking/straightening the wheels. Wasnt sure I wanted to refinish as I didnt have any curb rash. Wheels didnt look new but they were clean/presentable. I was quoted $125 per wheel to check and straighten the wheels. If the wheels didnt need straightened the fee was $25 for the check. The rep then told me it was better deal to get them refinished at the same time. $150 per wheel included a full refinish and straighten. This includes dismount old tires, mount new tires and balance. Flat $600 out the door including tax for a set of 4.
Dropped off wheels. Had not thought about colors vs factory. My favorite wheels are the OEM GT500 wheels on my 2013 which are a dark grey. At the shop I asked if they had something similar. Rep handed me a swatch of various gunmetal colors graded from 1-20 each a darker shade. I opted for #4. AWRS uses powdercoating process to apply the color. For refinish only without significant repair, overnight is the typical timeline.
Got a call next day. Rear wheels were in fact bent. Stopped by and sure enough 180 out on each wheel were the same/similar bend just as DTD had said. Would be another day or two to get them finished. While I was there the center caps had been painted and were on a table. The color was amazing.
Got a call two days later, wheels are done. This is the result. Some will hate it, others will like it. Getting them back on the car today. Also doing the rear brakes while it is up on stands and waiting for the rotors to come in. Finished product is black barrels with the metallic grey face and they look awesome.
Enjoy the pics. Ill add on car when I get it back on the ground.
Center caps
Not the best light but sitting in the lobby when i got there like a christmas present.
Those look great and what an awesome price! Would love to see them in direct sunlight. Need to get my twist refinished an am leaning towards something slightly darker than stock.
Looks great. Unbelievable deal! Need to get mine refinished as well.
Couple of questions:
1. powder vs paint - pros/cons? generally hear that powder is more durable, but be careful about high heat used to cure? what to look out for?
2. recs in the SF Bay Area? East Bay?
Thx.
Those look great! Im planning to get my turbo twists refinished in gunmetal gray, too.
I wish I could find someone in Chicago that would do it for that price.
Those wheels look great and the peace of mind knowing they are straight and true helps make the money and effort worth it!
Would you be willing to share what company you used, since you had a good experience and mentioned its a franchise that could exist in other cities?
My wheels also need attention, and Ive been looking for a good refinish company to do the work.
yes, long story but I had them try a straighten a wheel (1 of 4 ) from an unscrupulous seller off of eBay
they provided me with documentation that helped me win the dispute they and offered to return the fee they charged
for the attempted repair
just one persons experience, it's a nationwide franchise type thing

I would consider using them again as I have a set of wheels I want color matched to my car
This is the same franchise i used. These are all locally owned so each franchise experience may be a bit different. Guy who owns our local shop also owns two tire shops (discount tire direct) and did mobile wheel repairs for 10 years before opening his awrs shop.
Attached these to the wrong post yesterday. Bit more sunlight in these pics.
Nice color. I like bright wheels over darker. But, you gotta keep them clean to be bright.
so, the darker wheels should be easier to take care of.
i had my twist wheels powder coated “Porsche” silver. There was more than two dozen silvers to choose from.
the Porsche silver was definitely the closest to the original.
After getting two wheels finished I compared against the original factory silver before sending the second pair off.
looking straight on, the two were very close.
texture was a little different, the powder was less smooth.
however, just as glossy or shiny as the original.
however, from an angle the original smoother paint was brighter.
so, if you’re looking for a bright silver that remains bright even from angles, I’d go with the original oem paint method.
the powdered wheels look great.
but, side by side, there is a slight difference.
the durability seems to be fine though under my normal street use.
Got her out today. Wow she rides smooth. You sometimes dont recognize a vibration i guess when you have had a car long enough. Not sure if the rear brakes or the wheels or both but it is butter smooth. Enjoy the pics.
Quick wash and spray detail. No tire shine. Wheels look amazing. Very happy with the work and cost.
