Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

The one without the valve cover is risky, since the cam bores are machined as a matched set with the head.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My son just bought his first Porsche (-99 Vesuvio Convertible 996). It has one cracked cylinder head that needs to be addressed. Lead time for repair from Hoffman is very long so looking into getting a replacement instead. Anybody sitting on a good 4-6 3.4L cylinder head you're willing to part with?

POST 2Original post

Chiming in to say I'm also looking for a 3.4L cylinder head, but bank 1 (cyl 1-3). Perhaps some lucky member has two good heads they're looking to get rid of!

POST 3Original post

There’s a few on eBay. Not mine, I know nothing about them. Overpriced IMO for something in unknown condition. The one without the valve cover is risky, since the cam bores are machined as a matched set with the head. https://www.ebay.com/itm/193759383605 https://www.ebay.com/itm/293915271280 https://www.ebay.com/itm/164336264424

Thanks for pointing those out. I am keeping an eye on ebay but like you stated they are over-priced or sketchy in some other way. I actually bought one from there that was guaranteed to be in good shape only to find that it too had a crack!! May have to bite the bullet and send the current one out for repair instead.

POST 5Original post

^^^ Hoffman/Hamheads is busy for good reason. Bite the bullet indeed! Get 'em done by the best - you won't be sorry

POST 6Original post

Second the Hoffman recommendation, they are the best I have found.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the recommendations, cylinder heads will be headed to Hoffman in the next day or two.

POST 8Original post

Do you have a part number you need? I have 3 early M96 heads sitting in the shop that are in good shape. If you can use one I would just give it to you.
