Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

- but from your reply along with never seeing a pre 2002 with a glass rear window - a new top must have been installed - the car has good records from previous owners but no new top receipt $.

My hunch is that someone swapped tops after their plastic window cracked - Robbins Auto Top sells a glass replacement panel for the 996 top.

The defrost button is used on the removable hardtop with a glass window, which were standard in '99.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

New member / first post... I finally bought a 911, 99 cab - its a hardtop delete,
[[750 Delete Cabriolet Hardtop]]
and it has a glass rear window w defrost... while searching for the right porsche., I never ran across a pre 2002 with a glass rear window -
This 99 also has a werks 1 code 09991 manufacture from the exclusive-programme -- did porsche offer glass in 99 ?
Anyone ever see a 99' with a glass rear window?
Many thanks
Do you have a defrost switch for the top?
The 09991 code seems common and generic - I suspect it's unrelated to your rear window.
My hunch is that someone swapped tops after their plastic window cracked - Robbins Auto Top sells a glass replacement panel for the 996 top.
If you have factory wiring and a switch for the rear window defogger, however, my hunch would seem wrong...
thanks 5CHN3LL-
yes I do have the defrost button -

I understand that glass rear windows weren't offered from Porsche [996] until 2002- so the 09991code couldn't be for the glass rear window..
I noticed more on the 09991code here

clever screen name 5CHN3LL... would that be on your license plate's as well?
The defrost button is used on the removable hardtop with a glass window, which were standard in '99.
The convertible top was not available from the factory with a glass rear window in '99. There are one or more aftermarket replacement tops with (smaller) glass windows available. (
GAHH
is one of them).
Looks like you have a replacement top.
Its hard to tell from the angle of your photo, but I think you have a replacement top with a glass window, which in the pre-2002 cars is smaller in size.
I replaced my top about a year and a half ago and struggled with the decision to go with plastic (larger window) or glass (smaller window).
Plastic won out for me.
Look for some photos on the internet and/or compare your car to others around and look at the size difference to be certain.
