Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Missing my 40th ae 996 quite a bit. Picked up a cayenne turbo s and 89 944 turbo but still have the 996 itch. What the right money on a clean 02 6 speed coupe. Decent options a lot of owners not a ton of records with 119k?? Thanks!

POST 3Original post

I'd say maybe $13k give or take a grand or so. What's the asking price?

POST 4Original post

I just picked up a 2 owner 996, white, grey interior, 6 speed, 124k with the original IMS/RMS (as far as I know) for $13k . Has minor scratches/knicks and a small dent on the door.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

19k. It is pretty clean inside and out and again some great options. Fresh front brakes and silver with a black interior. $13k? Wow I have yet to see an mk2 for that low. I thought this was a pretty good deal. I guess not. Ryan what year?

POST 6Original post

Mine is a 2000. Also has brand new bilsteins up front and new motor mounts, if that counts for anything..

POST 8Original post

Out of curiosity what would an 04 with 23,500 miles ...New IMS pro bearing, new clutch and flywheel, Aos and motor mounts...cabriolet get priced at?

POST 9Original post

Yeah I'd say 17 or so as well. 13k seems pretty low for a Mk2 runner with a clean title. Maybe try and get it for 15k and spend the other 2 or 3k to do the preventative fixs and ensure maintenance is up to date.

POST 11Original post

I think these older cars prices are very area dependent. In CA that car would probably be $22-25k. East coast driver in winter $19-22k. Mid west $18-20k (depending on how much corn it will haul )

POST 12Original post

Canada: 30K. Can't believe how hosed those guys get on car prices.

I agree that it's region-dependent. I just got an '02 C2 with 78K miles for $21K here in Southern California. I wish I saw more of those <$15K deals out there guys keep saying they are finding.

This is my first post, I have been lurking on the forums for quite a while learning everything about the 996 that I can. I am looking to pick up a new car and am cross shopping the 996 against a few other cars. In terms of pricing, I have been watching the pricing and looking at cars that sold on ebay and looking at what people paid on "new owner threads" to get a sense for value of 996's. I would think that 13-15k is about the right money. I would start at 13k and then look at the maintenance that these cars seem to need around that level (IMS, clutch, RMS, water pump, etc.) and add value for all of those things that you should assume you will have to replace in the first year of ownership. There is a car on ebay right now that has 90k and a new motor with a 1 year warranty and it had an asking price of 21k /w free shipping. You figure the standard 10% negotiation price and you are looking at a car with 20k less miles and a new motor for $19,500 give or take. There is a 2000 (or 01) on craigslist with a new X51 motor and 18" aftermarket wheels that is going for $27k (if memory serves) it has more miles than this and is so I would think it entirely depends on how quickly the seller wants to get rid of the car. To throw out a number I would expect to see a car like that when the seller actually wanted to get calls listed somewhere in the low 30's and hope to get somewhere around 30 for it.
