Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

If you have the larger center dot matrix display, the cluster must be disassembled to replace the LEDs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm loving my new (to me) '99 996. But something that's becoming an issue is the LEDs in the dash. They're dim enough that in daylight they are sometimes barely readable, and with polarized sun glasses - forget it! At night, it's no prob, and the manual says adjustment only works with head lights on, and dialed up at night is plenty bright. But in daylight... So would this be a sensor problem, or just old, faded LEDs? And if so - is there a workaround that doesn't involve a new dash?

POST 2Original post

They should be plenty bright. Your bulbs may need to be replaced, depending on your cluster. If yours looks like mine in the picture below (aside from the color), the bulbs can be swapped out from the rear of the cluster. If you have the larger center dot matrix display, the cluster must be disassembled to replace the LEDs.

POST 3Original post

I had mine replaced as well. Mine's the whiter version. There's one white and one blue. Just search on ebay. A kit is around 20-30 usd and easy to do yourself.
