Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am in the process of replacing my clutch with IMS/RMS job and have a question: I can purchase a SACH's Clutch kit that meets OEM specs or step up to a Spec 1 Clutch kit for a little more. I use the car for pleasure and occasional Auto-crossing-which clutch would you recommend I use? Just seeking some advice from anyone who has used the two different packages in their cars.

POST 2Original post

Depending on your ax class or sanctioning org. you need to read the rule book before you screw up with something that bumps your class. Anything other than stock takes you to Street prepared or higher. The reason I say this is because I bought my M3 that the previous owner was running in STU. I looked at the car and it was 9/10ths built to the class, Suspension, wheels tires, brakes, pullies, CAI, headers etc. Going through the list of massive receipts I found it had a Stage 2 clutch. CRAP! welcome to street prepared. of which the car is about 6/10ths prepped.

POST 3Original post

I just purchased the Stage 1 clutch kit from Pelican Parts along with a new slave cylinder and RMS. I plan on having the install early next week. Got my fingers crossed that the flywheel is ok .

POST 5Original post

In my personal opinion, Spec blows. A Spec stageII clutch held less power than a stock clutch on my STi. It only survived one day at the drag strip vs. hundreds of passes for Exedy, OEM and ACT.

POST 6Original post

Spec clutches are pretty popular with the BMW crowd, never had one myself though so I can't vouch for them.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 12110624

just out of curiosity... Why would a clutch put you into a new class? Also how would anybody know without removing the transmission (I am NOT suggesting dishonesty) but it always my belief that the clutch either holds the power or it slips... In other words if the only modification is a stronger clutch you won't improve times.

POST 8Original post

Well on my E36 M3 my Spec stage 2 clutch rattles in neutral with clutch released. It's a dead give away. Apparently they all do, so one more reason to stay stock unless you up the power.
