And also, don't let anyone see you doing this or there will be a hysterical massive run on fuel stabilizer to protect our cars, like TP and bottled water.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

With the virus containment issues, Im barely driving. Is there any concern that parking the car for weeks will lead to ethanol degradation in the fuel pump and lines? Can anyone recommend a gas stabilizer that could help? Not sure where or how I could even buy it now, but Ill try if its needed. Be safe everyone!

POST 2Original post

Red Sta-Bil at 1 ounce per 2.5 gallons fuel. Or. Green Sta-Bil at 1 ounce per 10 gallons fuel.

POST 3Original post

The Gas stations are still open. Go to your nearest Shell station and fill up with V-Power Nitro 93/91 (or whatever it's called) - or equivalent. A full tank of fuel is your best defense against dilution/condensation. Nothing too bad is going to happen in a few weeks...the danger is when those few weeks or months drag into a few years - don't laugh, it can happen. If it makes you feel better, go ahead and put some fuel stabilizer in there too. And don't forget - practice social distancing and sanitize!

Amazon sells it...

POST 5Original post

Been using Sta Bil in all my gas engines for years. From Honda generators to my cars and bikes. Never had an issue with start up after months of sitting.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all, I ordered some red Sta-Bil from Amazon.

POST 7Original post

These cars were designed for ethanol. No need to worry about ethanol harming the fuel system. Now moisture accumulation from sitting is a concern, for that Stabil is a good idea.

Wear rubber gloves when you use it. Your need to add about 7-8 ounces. Fill up. Let run-in a few minutes. You'll be fine. Good insurance. Stay healthy. Bend the curve. Sta-Bil is sold just about everywhere.....hardware stores, auto parts stores, gas stations, Walmart, Target. Very easy to find.

POST 9Original post

You should probably arm yourself while opening your gas cap to pour in some stabilizer. And also, don't let anyone see you doing this or there will be a hysterical massive run on fuel stabilizer to protect our cars, like TP and bottled water. The gas in your gas tank is good for months. There is no reason to concern yourself with this. Here's my two cents...

The Driven Racing gas stabilizer.

POST 11Original post

If you have E10 or better for standard fuel, that's specifically what the Marine/Green Stabil is for. Fuel degrades with exposure to oxygen ,, you want the tank nicely topped off, not over full you need a small amount of expansion room. I happen to have a Ethanol free pump about 5 miles from home.. I use that when storing. DO NOT empty the system, the Alcohol resistant rubber bits in the line need to be wet. If they are allowed to dry out,, they will leak.
