Suggestion
I don't think the C4 really changes the value on a 99, the reason I bought mine was because it was loaded with options, had an aero package and was ocean blue metallic.

I agree completely that @mrdeezy auction set a benchmark.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello. Was wondering what others think is a fair private party price for a 1999 C4. Excellent condition, 42k miles, RMS and IMS done at 32k. Full leather and no modifications. Well sorted, serviced regularly and what was needed was always taken care of. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
That's pretty much my car without the RMS and IMS. I also have a lot of very tasteful interior mods plus I have an aero package.
I can tell you I bought my car 4 years or so ago for $22K with 33K miles. I don't know what it is worth today, but I am going to say about that much for a "real" sale number.
Thanks. This does not have aero package, does have power seats, stock CD player, climate control, silver trim on gear shift and e brake and has sport classic wheels.
With todays economic climate... I think you can pretty much name your price and a seller would have to consider it. Have a feeling we are going to even see air-cooled drop to "reasonable" numbers.
Thanks for your responses, I realize c4 vs c2 is all about individual preference. That said do the c4's command a higher price? I submitted my initial question as 996 prices are all over the place.
Around mid 20's would be fair. I would offer 22k and go from there.
My c2 sold for 22k yesterday (mint interior 55k c2) and I thought that was more than fair.
My belief is that the c4 is worth a bit more than a c2 because it can be driven 365 days a year anywhere in the country. c4 sales are strong in winter too when c2 fall off a little.
I watched your auction on BAT, beautiful car, and you described and answered questions about your car flawlessly! I would say the car that I am looking at aside from being a C4 is very similar in condition.
...not a criticism, just mentioning my 99 C2 winter experience. I live in MN and while this winter was mild, we still had the occasional blizzard and road ice conditions. I ride Blizzaks in the winter. My 99 is a daily driver. Winter driving in MN is more about stopping ability than starting. And the Blizzaks performed wonderfully in all conditions except ice. The biggest issue with winter driving an older 911 is driving on icy roads in windy conditions. The car is light and gets blown around. A C4 wouldnt inspire any more or less confidence for me.
My C4 drives awesome on ice, both stopping and starting its a 2003, The PSM and Traction control work great,, yes you are still limited to the laws of physics, but mine has the Michelin Sport Pilots and it still drove great in the winter. And I drive in the Columbia Gorge which is the king of wind and ice.. So there ya have it just another opinion..
Thanks to all the responses! I did forget to mention the car I am looking at is a coupe. I live on the east coast so we often have snow and ice, that said, unless I get caught in bad weather this is going to be a fair weather car. However, I do like that the C4
seems to be more planted and stable for my driving skill set. I must admit that I have been reading RL for quite some time and all the IMS, scoring and D chunk talk has made me walk away from a few cars that were most likely perfectly fine. Now, I have the $ to buy outright and feel I can get past some of my fears and am ready to enter the 996 world. Do I still have some reservations, hell yes! But when I look at nice 996's b/w 20 to 25k I really cant find a better valued true sports car on the market.
I don't think the C4 really changes the value on a 99, the reason I bought mine was because it was loaded with options, had an aero package and was ocean blue metallic. I remember when I bought it, I was wishing it was a C2, but it doesn't really matter to me now. The 99 C4 will have PSM, I don't know if it was even an option for the C2, or if it was an option, very few came with it.
I kinda wish I could break the car loose, but you really can't unless you are on wet pavement and have the wheels turned quite a bit from a stop.
I bought my 1-owner '99 C4 Cab, 6sp, in 07/2018 with 26,410 miles for $24K. Pretty basic except the audio system was upgraded; McIntosh amp, Canton speakers, Alpine HU. IMS, RMS, AOS had not been done. I think the price is good.
Magnus, where are you located? Snow accumulation is the problem, as these cars don't have much ground clearance. Even though the car is a 99, I'd still get a PPI and bore scope the cylinders from the oil sump.
We are in Lancaster county, so snow is not usually an issue and if it is we get a pretty good warning to get cars off road. Planning on a Borascope. I did notice the last time I saw it and it was started on a cold start absolutely no smoke. The majority of winter the car is in garage on battery tender.
Bought my 2000 C4 Cab w/90k miles and IMS done 6 months ago for $15k. It was a Craigslist find offered by a dealer on consignment. So, the actual seller got less.
It was/is in excellent mechanical condition w/only a few minor (but yet expensive) things that needed fixing which cost me $3k more. So, call it $18k fully sorted out plus tax/license of course which put the total cost at $20k.
Agree with low to mid 20's as the likely range. Disagree that we're going to see values plummet as a function of corona virus. Agree C2 more fun to drive if you like a bit of drift in your turns. ;-) And FWIW, I've read about several 4wd -> 2wd conversions, but none the other way. Agree winter driving is more about stopping than starting. Good luck with whatever you decide. @mrdeezy sale this week a great benchmark for early 996 C2's.

I agree completely that @mrdeezy auction set a benchmark. I really am not interested in beating someone up on price based on the Corona virus, the stock market did that already! My wife has a beautiful e46 convertible with manual trans and 43k miles, wont sell but if we did my price would not change due to the virus.
You should look really hard at the silver coupe (located in MD) that has an RND rebuild for $15K, it's a deal!

I saw that and if it was a manual I would really be interested. I have saved for a long time and manual is a requirement. That said the car I am looking at is not a definite, so if any of you have a 996 that they are looking to sell, please send me a message. Would need to be a manual and I would prefer a coupe.
