I cleaned my MAF, getting it in and out was guite easy.
Leading evidence: 'Clean maf, getting it in and out was guite easy' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'maf sensor or brake switch' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check brake fluid sender' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

At the time it happened I also got a Check Engine light and read out a code on the OBD port that indicated low air flow so I took apart the MAF Sensor cleaned it along with the air filter.
Thanks Jasper, yes I used that Pelican thread to help me clear the code I got (Low Air Flow) and how to clean the MAF Sensor but of course I still have the ABS/PSM Failure indicators.

The Dealer replaced the MAF Sensor and he's now running very well.

Suspected cause
I've been told it's likely a MAF sensor or brake switch.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone, since I'm very new to 996 I've made an apt for Monday to have my local dealer diagnose the failure I'm seeing displayed on the dash; ABS/PSM Failure Drive to Workshop. Out of curiosity how does the dealer go about diagnosing this issue beyond the OBD tool? Do they use an addl software program (Can't remember the name) I've heard about to pinpoint the problem area? Thanks, Ralph
Same exact thing happened to me last month. Still haven't brought it in for service. I've been told it's likely a MAF sensor or brake switch. No idea how it's diagnosed.
ok, good thoughts and thanks guys. I'll report back what the dealer finds on Monday. At the time it happened I also got a Check Engine light and read out a code on the OBD port that indicated low air flow so I took apart the MAF Sensor cleaned it along with the air filter. I discovered a big pile of leaves on the intake side of the filter that was probably slowing down the flow (my guess) because after I put it all back together I was able to clear the code and extinguish the light. Ralph
Here is a short list of what you can check at home;
A switch on the brake pedal can fail
A bad brake light bulb can cause this (so I've read) even one in the third brake light
A failed brake fluid level sender
Brake fluid level low
Possible blown fuse? check fuse cover? for location of fuse, or is it in the owners manual?
Good advice, thanks. Brake lights are good, don't have a clue as to how to check the brake fluid sender but the level I can take care of! At least I can check off a few things on your list so we'll see. Either way it'll be an interesting first experience at the dealer on Monday should I still have to have the service call! R.
This has been well and thoroughly discussed over on Pelican.

probable causes are the brake pedal switch or the MAF sensor.
cheap and easy to fix
Had this, you just have to check if you brake lights work, if they do not it is the brake light switch. Cheap part, $20 at an OPC, easy to DIY.

Thanks Jasper, yes I used that Pelican thread to help me clear the code I got (Low Air Flow) and how to clean the MAF Sensor but of course I still have the ABS/PSM Failure indicators. When we last checked I did have all 3 brake lights but will make sure before going to the dealer. R.
OPC = Official Porsche Centre. I got this error sporadically, so if the error on the dash goes away it is not a total malfunction and the break lights will work. My symptoms were, error on dash, ABS/PSM lights on. stopped the car, got worried, restarted all was fine. This happened a couple of times, and only when the error occurred did I notice the lights.
I'm no expert so I'll take this data right off of the repair order. Fault Code P0102 and they replaced the air filter... I did try cleaning both of those parts (before making the apt at the dealer) but the code returned immediately and since I only have an OBDII Reader I could take the issue no further.
I think the bigger questions here are what software does the dealer use that pinpoints the Sensor and would having a copy of the Durametric Software on my laptop have helped me to arrive at the same conclusion? Thoughts?
I've read somewhere that the MAF might produce electric fluctuations that might affect and give a false positive error on the PSM/ABS. As the sensor for the PSM/ABS gets fluctuating electrical signals and then give an error. So an indirect fault code.
Wow, this will be a project but judging from what I saw in the video for debris and knowing what I found at the rear of mine it looks like it will be very worthwhile. I love this forum and thanks so much for pointing me to the video... Ralph
A LOT more than that plus the labor. I f you feel that is the trouble spot then get it from Pelican. What is making you thing it's the Sensor, did you get a failure code like mine, do you have Durametric? Ralph
Changing the MAF is a quick DIY, but the job in locating the source of the error takes time I recon. You can also buy a BOSH MAF for half the price, only difference is it says BOSH on it and not Porsche. I cleaned my MAF, getting it in and out was guite easy.
