Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
If you disconnect the battery when it's in this state, it refuses to guess and just displays empty.
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect battery' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect battery' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys, drove the C4S to work today, I was on an incline at a red light when I stalled due to not matching the revs and releasing the clutch. When I started the car back up, the fuel gauge displayed completely empty, orange light with no miles remaining.
I turned off the car and back on but no change. I turned it off, left it off for a few minutes then back on still no change. Anyone know what this could be and how to fix it? Would removing the battery reset it? Any help would greatly appreciated.
Thanks frisbee91, I did a google search and a few folks did this and it worked. I was at a little less than half when it happened. I'll fill it up after work and report back.
I experienced something similar. I was running on fumes. When I was able to fill up, the gas gauge still showed empty. Bottom line, the float sometimes gets stuck. I would top off your tank and wait a day or so. I think you find the float will unstick itself. Chalk it up to that Porsche charm.
I read somewhere on this forum or 6speed, because our cars (C4S) have AWD the drive shaft that runs across the front takes some space from the fuel tank. So in retrospect, never let your tank get below a quarter of a tank. Mine did several times on long road trips and I remember it going from 26 miles on the display to zero in seconds. I did not understand what was going on at the time, but after investigating I found out it's because of the front (AWD) axles. The C4S tank is saddle bag shaped because of the AWD hardware in there. So it is a little more complicated than a C2 tank.

At around a quarter tank, the car can no longer accurately gauge fuel and instead calculates how much gas is left. If you disconnect the battery when it's in this state, it refuses to guess and just displays empty. Quirky.
