With perfect launch and perfect shifting you can get to 60 under 5 seconds (this implies you are a professional driver), this was great in 2002; today Hyundai Genesis can give you a run for your money.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I barely have a week with my Porsche, but every time I go and stop in a traffic light, I get challenged
Is this normal when you own a Porsche
My list and results so far :
Toyota celica street prepared/ won
Ford mustang Shelby/ won
Ford raptor/ won
Chevy camaro 2SS/ won
Dodge challenger SRT/ won
Honda Odyssey/ won (I'm not kidding on this one, neither on my result
)
By the way the driver of the minivan a hot, blond soccer mom.
Porsche 2014 911 Turbo S/ lost
That explains Corvette being the only red light challenge I've ever got. Of course it was only 1/4 mi. so he got me.
Everything else under the sun has tried me on the freeway and twistys, and they've all lost.
996.2 convertible with 4,000 miles on it smashing much faster cars, seems legit.
I never had a stop light challenger in a year of owning the car. Had a few highway runs, that is it. So it must be your spoiler getting people riled up and your skills destroying them.
Even if you are the best driver out there and you are launching your 996 at 6k RPM with perfect traction, a 996 convertible is at best a 13.3-13.5 second car. With perfect launch and perfect shifting you can get to 60 under 5 seconds (this implies you are a professional driver), this was great in 2002; today Hyundai Genesis can give you a run for your money.

Yes, beginners luck, good to know the Odyssey, Celica, Camaro, Challenger, Mustang, Raptor are faster cars than a Porsche 911 you my friend are really a connoisseur when it comes to cars , but thanks to you if a Corolla XRS try to challenge me, I'll be really careful
[QUOTE=911 carrera blue;11550361]
If you couldn't take the hint the first post, let me elaborate so it is clear. Bull **** on your Shelby Mustang, Camaro 2SS, and Challenger SRT kills. Your 996 is much slower than those cars.
Raptor is passable. Celica easy. Odyssey, this one reeks of overcompensation; racing a minivan with a soccer mom? You are going to seriously suggest that a soccer mom in a minivan challenged a 911 convertible to a race? Please elaborate on how this transpired. You pull up to the light, she revs her motor so you can hear the VTEC? You smash her during the race, then smash her in the back of the van?
Stock XRS is a 15 second car, with turbo kit it is just as fast as 996.
Posting outrageous kill stories without videos will get your *** lit up on any car forum, Porsche forum included.
You want me to take this back, run your car on the track and post some 1/4 mile slips and videos. You will not break 13.5 in your car in Florida.
Gotta agree with that. It makes no sense to me that OP gets challenged at every single light by such a variety of willing competition, yet I have never had it happen even once.
Maybe Florida folks are different, though.
I could see the Shelby getting spanked if it just pulled off the lot, LOL. The supercharger doesn't build boost for the first 12 miles to prevent car porters from messing with the cars. Other then that any modern Shelby will lay such a massive beating on your car that it's not even fair.
For the record I prefer my 997.2 C2S as a drivers car to my Shelby. In stoplight street race my 997.2 is not even a blip on the radar for my Shelby.
If a 991 S can't do it..you aren't even close.
World's Greatest Drag Race 2! - YouTube
Street racing is silly and dangerous. If you really want to see the 911 shine, then take it to the track. The car is better suited for a road course than a drag race. A good time on a race track requires driving skill in addition to a fast car, so it's a better way to compare yourself to another driver. It's always fun to see people at the track in fast cars like a 911 getting whipped by a skilled driver in a Miata or a VW. Racing on the street against a minivan gives Porsche drivers a bad name.
So I'm at a red light and this car pulls up with what appear to be four young punks in it. I look over and they're all looking at me. I can tell they want to race. I rev my engine, they rev theirs, I don't hear anything so I know it's some kind of secret stealth car. I look over again and it has what appears to be racing sponsorship graphics all over it. I'm thinking holy crap am I going to be able to take him? I remember how I read about the OP beating all challengers off the line so I gain some confidence and go for it. No time for my driving gloves, I'm sweating, The light turns green, I launch off the line, 13.2 seconds later I'm at 60, I won. #feelinggreat #ijustkickedaPRIUSsass #driversedpunks.
And if you did all those launches at full race, meaning reving to 6500k, start to let the clutch out and then floor the gas while modalating the clutch to keep the revs high, you have probably just eaten up your clutch.
I had a Shelby that wanted to go but I didn't have enough room ahead to try launch control. Additionally as others have said, all it takes is someone to change lanes or some other unforeseen thing and you kill someone, ruin your car, spend thousands in court costs and maybe go to jail. For what? There is no cash prize, a hottie doesn't kiss you and give you an engraved cup! Besides at the end of the day would I want the Shelby because as another poster said it will seriously will outpace the Spyder or a 911 off the line? No! If I wanted a blvd rocket I wouldn't choose a Porsche at all....
Add me to the "I call BS" roster.
It is funny that there's a pervasive belief - especially among non-Porsche owners, that every Porsche is stupid fast. My '96 automatic Corvette will take any stock 996 or 997, at least up to 100mph, unless I can't hook up. $200 in mods plus a Dana 44 3.73 swap will clean up just about anything under 350HP. Top end on my car is now 130 instead of 170+, but man is it fun getting there. If you think the 996 is a lot of car for $25K, take a look at $10- $15K Corvettes. Sure, they rattle, and sure, it looks like 1975 under the hood, but the bang-for-the-buck is awesome.
Anyway, point is that I could whip OP in my C4. There's no way he walked a Challenger SRT with almost 33% more horsepower unless it was down a cylinder or two. That car should do 0-60 about half a second faster than a NEW 996.
Also, OP - I have never been challenged in the 996 by anything I didn't think had a fair chance of beating me, but it turns out that if you're actually friendly with the other people in fast cars instead of revving and nodding, they'll talk to you and stuff. It's kind of fun. Highly recommended.
There is actually a story to the BRZ being there. It was clearly outclassed by everything else but the video is the culmination of a 40 minute video on best drivers car. Incidentally the 991 took that prize in case anyone was wondering. They put the BRZ in because for the money it's a fantastic drivers car. It was an outlier but demonstrates that it can hang with some very expensive cars for pennies on the dollar based on pure feel.
Anyway this thread is starting to remind me of some of the threads on the local tuner forum...."Modified" Civics pulling 458's at stoplights. By modified they mean stickers and a fart can exhaust, but once they hit VTEC, WATCH OUT!!!!
Don't worry MiamiC70, I'll teach you have to drive any car and see for yourself the capacity of a Porsche.
[quote=Kalashnikov;11550513]
Now you're backing up on the Celica, Odyssey and the Raptor????????
I guess you had to google them to see what kind of vehicles were those!!!!!
Oh by the way

I couldn't agree more with Gonzo911 and Dennis C after I was challenged as soon as I reach the legal speed limit I let it go from the gas and that is were the race stop for me, the only one who wants to continue was the guy on the Shelby which I decline, give him a second chance at the second light. Remember they rev at me not me to them.
The soccer mom rev at me and laugh she did not slam it neither did I but it was so much fun!!!!!!
Punks don't drive Prius
I did not have a chance to go that far on the RPM and I did not keep the clutch to keep the revs high I may try that next time.
You're 100% right no comment
Believe me I'm the nicest guy, why they rev at me? I have no idea may be that massive spoiler I have
The almost only cars that want to challenge me on red lights with the Porsche are ugly Mustangs that don't even stand a chance. Morons! I wish hot soccer moms wanted to play the game but I've NEVER EVER observed nor heard of it before :P
It's a different story with the Tesla though, other sport car owner seem to be willing to check if the legend is true
Hey, low 13's isn't bad... In a pick up truck. Completely stock but for a $150 software tune.

That's not a GT500.
In the video is this :

That's a 325 horsepower car. A GT500 has close to 700, stock.
OP, take your car to the race track and run proper 1/4 mile times if you want people here to take your kill stories seriously. If you are a great driver, rip some high 12 second times on YOUR car and post slips and videos of your endeavors. Posting videos of random 997 cars doing some sort of racing is not a way to make a point.
Slips+ videos= credible proof. Stories are pointless. Here is the example of how you do it. My acura on the track my friend's 5.0 on the track. When it cools off in Arizona, I will take the 996 to finally get a run without waiting for 5 hours. I failed to score a run in the 996 last time I went to the local track as it was so over-crowded after re-opening.

I sure hope that video with SRT8 is not you because those are the two worst launches I have ever seen. I guess all those years when I launched my 1969 369 Chevelle, my 1978 Z28 with a 350 then a 454 (yea, you read that right), 1984 302 GT mustang etc... I was doing it all wrong.
As for the Porsche my comment stands "BULL****" on your drag race stories. BTW, you are in Florida I am in Florida and I am not above dropping the hammer on my 40th AE vs. your drop top if you really want a lesson.
There is a nice Cars & Coffee in Celebration Sunday 8-10 Show and shine stuff but you meet some go fast guys as well.

Wash and wax is ok. Speed is better. My friends and I don't race soccer moms or do public commute racing. DE events are normal, track days too. Sometimes a little empty industrial park street racing action is fun as well. More fun than oil threads that's for sure.
To the OP...So if you want to come out and see how others handle fast cars and have fun without pissing off the general public your welcome !
