Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A very faint clunking that can be heard and felt in the steering wheel. Seems to go away when cold but driven 15 miles clunk comes back. I checked for obvious thing but cannot find any glaring bushings with sway bar or shocks. Any common issues to look for?

POST 2Original post

Mine was the tiniest bit of play in the sway bar links. Definitely give those a good look.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18220007

Thanks, I will look into those and report back. Any other ideas out there?

POST 4Original post

Top strut mounts are a common source for otherwise untraceable clunks, especially when turning the steering wheel.

POST 5Original post

Another common cause is the front forward “tuning fork” control arms. I just bought a pair of OEM Meyle’s I’m going to try to eliminate my “clunks”. It’s an easy DIY.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Checked top strut mounts. Tight.

And the bearings are good?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18223700

Don't know. How do you test?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Changed the sway bar link. Took it out this morning. It was quiet. On the way back from cars & coffee (40 miles) noise/clunk came back. It's a heat related thing or mileage driven noise. Going to drive it more this afternoon and see if it's still there and put it on the lift if it's still there.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The problem still exists. Definitely related to a heat or flexing for a longer period of time. Can't figure why a suspension would be OK cold then get clunky when driven for 30 minutes.
