I just don't know now how easy it would be to keep them clean by doing that periodically, or if they should be coated with something.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My OEM '99 lug bolts are old and rusty and in need of being replaced? Has anyone a good link for decent stainless steel versions that do not cost an arm and a leg? I assume I should avoid any and all ebay Chinese versions for safety sake?

POST 2Original post

Not sure about stainless steel, but I bought a set of titanium lug bolts for like $250 for all 20. Saved like 10-15 pounds over all four wheels and look fantastic. I'll see if I can find the receipt. Bought them in the last six months.

By pounds, I'm sure you mean grams, right?

POST 6Original post

I bought new black ones from ECS because the Canadian FX conversion on the titanium was just a big rich for me. I'm sure it will happen at some point though... Once I replaced them though, I had nothing to lose in experimenting with the old ones. I used an inexpensive ultrasonic cleaner (Princess Auto up here - what you would get at Harbor Freight). I used warm water, but then put the bolts in a ziploc bag filled with CLR. It took several cycles, but all of the rust (and any remaining paint/coating/whatever it was ) came off. I just don't know now how easy it would be to keep them clean by doing that periodically, or if they should be coated with something.

POST 7Original post

steel lug bolts weigh 100 grams. the Ti should weigh about 50. 50(20) =1000 grams or about 2.2 lbs

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 18244907

I think other have posted the difference to be about 6 ounce per wheel. 5 stock bolts = 1 pound

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 18244926

Definitely not grams. It was fairly substantial I thought.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 18245356

So about 4 pounds. Thanks for setting me straight!

POST 11Original post

6 ounces a wheel is a pound and a half savings. Just trying to make sure information here is accurate.

POST 12Original post

In this pic, from left to right, titanium (from Acer), 1999 factory version, current factory version, 1999 locking bolt. Just trying to make sure information here is accurate. Here are the 1999 bolt and new version next to each other (new on the left).

POST 13Original post

Local Porsche stealership quoted me $20 each for new lugs, so Acer is a good price for 20 lugs.

It sounds like Porsche of Denver has the same crazy mark-up as Porsche of San Diego. The lug bolts are $8.00 from Gaudin. Even a brand new lug bolt from the dealer is pretty fugly next to a titanium one.

POST 15Original post

I did the same - Acer Racing titanium lug bolts. Couldnt be happier. They look great and hold 96 ft-lbs no problem. Ive had these on the track once, but everything else is just street. Zero corrosion on these.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 18245679

That's crazy. I paid $12 in Canada. That's like US$4.95

POST 17Original post

I put these on in standard size light and sharp looking plus added benefit of theft deterant
