Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I decided to start this thread to help anyone else who finds themselves in my unfortunate situation when driving a LONG ways home with no functioning cruise control. I recently bought a PP '04 C4S and flew out with my dad to collect it and bring it home on an 800 mile 12+ hour drive. After a banking issue, the transaction had to be consummated the day after I intended and we lost probably 8+ hours of good driving time and had to haul *** home in one day as opposed to taking our time over 2+ days. My PPI was less than perfect, and the PO didn't reveal that the clutch helper spring had been removed at some point in the car's life. PO and PPI also did not reveal that the cruise would turn on but not set the speed. Long story short my dad and I fussed around the whole trip home trying to get the cruise to work. I got on Rennlist to try and find a solution, but helping driving and looking through forums on my iPhone didn't allow me to find what eventually was the work around until I got back and behind my computer screen. If your clutch seems very stiff to push in when you get the car, the clutch helper spring was very likely removed. In order to get the cruise control to set, put your foot behind the clutch pedal and pull it towards you and set your cruise control at the same time.. boom, now it works. We made it home with sore legs and knees but to save someone else the pain and suffering, please refer to this post. So far enjoying the car! It has a little bit of a story, but nothing a few trips to the indy and $$ won't fix. Now to figure out that sunroof...
