Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Further to my earlier posts in this Forum (July, August 2023), the tensioner and camshaft sensor on bank 1 were replaced (besides the pads) on my 2000 996.

Do you happen to know if it is possible to test the cam variator hydraulic side and the electrical side independently, so that I can replace only the side that is malfunctioning?

The plan is to replace the variocam solenoid on bank 1 hoping that this will fix both error code 1341 and the out of spec camshaft deviation angle.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Further to my earlier posts in this Forum (July, August 2023), the tensioner and camshaft sensor on bank 1 were replaced (besides the pads) on my 2000 996. Unfortunately, the camshaft deviation angle did not improve. It is still around 6.5 degrees. Now the engine light is on (error code 1341). The scanner shows that the camshaft angle of bank 1 does not ramp up as quickly as the angle of bank 2 when revving up the engine. The plan is to replace the variocam solenoid on bank 1 hoping that this will fix both error code 1341 and the out of spec camshaft deviation angle. The replacement will be done in a few days. My other car is being serviced and I will get it back only in a few days. Is it ok to for me to drive the 996 with error code 1341 showing? Thanks

POST 2Original post

You probably need to replace the entire cam Variator unit, not just the solenoid. The Varoicam adjuster unit includes the solenoid.

Thanks for your reply. Do you happen to know if it is possible to test the cam variator hydraulic side and the electrical side independently, so that I can replace only the side that is malfunctioning?

POST 4Original post

If the solenoid was the culprit, you would not get any adjustment of the cam angle. If you are getting a slow adjustment of the cam angle, then your actuator is bad.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks to both of you. The explanation make sense.
