The prior owner of my 2001 996 removed the amplifier and wired the radio to the amplifier wires. I bought a used amplifier and wired it correctly and the radio now plays with appropriate volume. There was one extra wire on the small black connector from the amplifier that did not connect to anything coming from the radio. It is brown and yellow. Does anyone know what it is for??? Also do the wires from the radio to and from the amplifier just get routed between the carpet in the trunk and the metal wall in front of the battery or do they go behind the metal wall between the battery and the metal wall?

In the second photo, the wire is yellow/black (not brown). That wire is only used for cars optioned with the telephone. When the telephone is in use, this wire would let the amplifier know so it could mute itself.

Great, thanks for the reply! My radio works good with the amplifier reinstalled. Good to know that I don�t have a missing wire that should have been connected!

timely post! I'm in the slow process of doing the same thing but adding an amplifier inline. I have added my own harness from the amp output to the speaker twisted pairs. Do you have the subwoofer enclosure on the rear parcel shelf?
