Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everybody.. I just picked up a great 996.1 and am looking for some advice. I've read a few threads about lowering these and just got a quote from a shop here in Los Angeles. Does this look right? I am just doing this forlooks.. Appreciate any insight or help. Front Bilstein B6 Performance struts $800 Rear Bilstein B6 Performance struts $710 Front strut mounts $344 Front strut bearings $128 Rear strut mounts $334 H&R Sport spring set $269 Shipping for springs $35 Rennline wheel spacers (10mm front,12mm rear) $190 Longer wheel bolts (rennline) $139 Shipping for spacers and bolts $25 Labor to install springs, struts $1610 Total is $4594 installed before sales tax.

POST 2Original post

Shop seems to be marking up the parts prices quite a bit. Find a shop that will install the parts you bring.

POST 3Original post

Depending on how low it is dropped u may need adjustable rear tow bars. Make sure that labor includes an alighnment and get a copy of the numbers when done.

POST 4Original post

I think dropping your car you should go coil over and as many adjustable pieces as possible I had a JIC/cross system very low and great ride but I got a deal on a set of OhlinsR/T so much more robust butthe drop is great handles amazing and firm ride but pliable

POST 5Original post

with lowering springs you need B8 shocks not B6. Also that labor is really high. Just had the same done for half that

POST 6Original post

Extremely high. I did B8 and H&R on my driveway for less than 1200 invested. Now, if you don't do your own work, I still think this is high as can be. Best of luck on this.

POST 7Original post

OP - Check your parts list prices yourself. Some prices are high. B8s only run about $1,000 a car and B6s are a little less than that. I think book hours for front and rear are 8 hrs. Mount hardware is about right, if it’s OE. Save yourself and look at Feal 441+ ‘cuz you’ll be much happier, me thinks. “There are no cheap Porsches, only cheap Porsche owners.”
