Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Cleaned my ICV, then bought a new (used but definitely working) ICV (Bosch too).
Leading evidence: 'Clean icv' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check intake/vacuum leaks' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Do you have a way to smoke the engine to check for vacuum leaks?

Am throwing a code for hot film on the maf so will try replacing that next, but don't think that'll change anything because it runs perfectly when the A/c is "on"
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a cracked A/C condenser so there's no refrigerant in the system. Compressor doesn't kick on so my idle goes to 900 (the tick right before 1000 - either 900 or 800) and stays there when A/C is turned on. Zero issues when driving - everything works fine.
I turn the A/C off and the car wants to idle around 700, as it should (forget if it's exactly 700 but I remember seeing on the trunk lid either 600 or 700 +/- 40 rpms is normal), but hunts for a solid 10-15 seconds. The car usually stalls too if I don't catch it in time.
Cleaned my ICV, then bought a new (used but definitely working) ICV (Bosch too). Didn't fix it. Cleaned maf and no good. Am throwing a code for hot film on the maf so will try replacing that next, but don't think that'll change anything because it runs perfectly when the A/c is "on"
Confused - any ideas? Problem came out of nowhere.
Do you have access to a Durametric or similar? If so, posting the hot idle data here would be helpful in sleuthing a solution.
My 99 C2 has suffered from similar behavior and it took a number of items to fully correct: O2 sensors, injectors, fixing some vacuum leaks, a new MAF, and a new FPRto name a few things.
Do you have a way to smoke the engine to check for vacuum leaks? There are a few spots on a 99 that seem to be consistently notorious for leaking vacuum. Search my username for a thread about that from just a few months ago.
Ummm...just a guess. Your AC is not working, no freon in the system, when you turn it "on" nothing is happening. The compressor will not engage if there is no freon in the system. I think that confuses the DME/ECU and makes the idle go whacko. Repair your AC system. First.
No durametric, but do have an autel maxidas. I've changed everything you've listed aside from injectors, testing for vac leaks and fuel pressure regulator. New maf is on the way because I am throwing the hot film maf code (it has shown before but went away post-clean, but now is back). Will check out your posts.
So the car behaves normally when the AC is button is pushed and the snowflake is on. It's when it is off that is causing the hunting idle/stalling. Compressor doesn't kick on, so I think the DME tells the ICV to compensate for the load the compressor would theoretically put on the car, but since there's no freon in the system, the compressor doesn't kick on but the ICV thinks it will, hence the reason for the idle increasing a tad.
Just confused why anything would make a difference if the car idles and runs fine with the A/c button turned on. Went through two ICVs and cleaned the maf. Haven't tried putting a new maf on, but just don't see how that would make a difference given that it runs fine with a simple push of the A/c button. if it were maf-related I'd think it would affect (effect?) the car's behavior in any situation. Maybe I'm wrong.
