Where do I find new carpet and seat covers for my 2001 996? I see lots of sites but, want the real deal. I think the carpet sounds like a PITA but, doable. How is it recovering the seats? DIY project?

New carpet is pretty easy to find on Ebay. 996 and 997 carpet is interchangeable (there are a few minor differences with the 997 carpet but they aren't noticeable once installed). Seats can be done as a DIY but it's worth the money to have it professionally done. Another option is finding a set of clean replacement seats, this is usually cheaper than having them reupholstered.

This is where I am at. Set of used seats would be infinitely easier to deal with and cheaper. The guy that did my top said it would be a few grand to do the seats. They are beyond anything I can do with them detailing at this point and would make the interior look 100% better.

I was unable to find anyone who makes new formed carpet. There is black 997 carpet on eBay right now for $350 and a breaker in KY that has used carpet for about $400. I bought the entire interior out of a wreck. Some of the carpet was faded but a couple hours of cleaning and $4 worth of RIT dye put it right. A few years ago I'd bought replacement leather covers for my C5 Corvette (GM leather of that era won't go the distance). Lots of work but came out great. Probably would take professional a lot less time, would hire it out next time.
