Instead of the straight GT3 console delete kit, I used a Funtion-First console riser kit in red/black.

Replace the CD changer connector with an aux in cable.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My car currently has the basic tape deck (including tape storage cubby) with DSP package, CD changer and amp in the frunk. I find this fairly useless as I never listen to radio, tapes, or CD's. All I want is to get music off my phone, no bluetooth or anything needed.
Here is my idea:
- remove the stock HU, amp, changer, and DSP unit
- add new amp in frunk (4-channel?)
- add storage cubby below the A/C controls
- replace bottom stack with GT3 delete kit
- secure RAM-mount (or equivalent) to the GT3 kit
- hardwire in a couple of USB power outlets
- hardwire an aux-to-RCA cable to the amp
Does this seem reasonable? I think the sound will be good enough with the aftermarket amp and stock speakers.
Any suggestions for a reasonable amp for this purpose? I don't need anything too fancy.
I'll have to see how it sounds with the stockers. It will never be great, as the biggest limitation will be going from the aux jack to RCA. At least I have an equalizer app for my phone
Just use one of these plug in and you are done

You'll need these to install the cable.

Done.
Wow no radio at all?
As much as it stinks I still like to listen to what is happening locally. Of course once they start playing the same thing 5 times in one hour then I go back to my own personal playlist.
This is purely a toy car, so no need for traffic or the like. And I find the radio stations in my area basically useless anyway. I'd rather have the cleaner look of the GT3 delete kit
and
a storage cubby.
Plus, once I get the Fister exhaust mod done, I probably won't need any tunes at all!
Any amp with RCA inputs should do exactly what you want... find nice place to route your headphone plug for the phone and you'll be all done.
You might consider something like this to make a flush install inside your cubby (rather than having the cable always there) or do the same inside the center armrest or even any other place you feel appropriate!

I did similar with my stereo install but with USB inputs for thumbdrives or phones - works great!
I upgraded the head unit and the amp in my car and the stock speakers don't cut it if you listen to music with a lot of bass or when I'm driving roof off and need to play music almost at max to get a decent amount of sound out of them. For more vocal and instrumental music they will be fine if not look at updating the speakers.
That's what I am doing at the moment
It took a while, but I've updated the interior. After lots of consideration, I decided that having a HU was a good thing. So I wound up with a new single-DIN HU, amp, and front/rear speakers (left the stockers in the doors).
Instead of the straight GT3 console delete kit, I used a Funtion-First console riser kit in red/black. I think it looks great, and the extra height is really nice. Still planning to permanently affix a RAM-mount, and may end up moving the USB cable... Also took the opportunity to repair the console hinge mount.
