Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Expect to pay about $10K to $12K for a good used engine plus about $3K labour for the swap.

I remember 5 years ago when MB Motorsports was in Sacramento CA selling used engines & transmissions on E-bay.

Oh yea and Martin can give a motor run by propane....

You say most motors in Europe run on propane..what?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello, an alien from the Air Cooled section.
A neighbor has a 2001 996 Cab. The motor requires a full rebuild... his quote from dealer was $24K. I suspect it could be done closer to $15-20K, but still a head shot...
IMHO, the car isn't worth a rebuild, and should just be sold as is. He's definitely not interested in wrenching.
What's his best option?
Thanks
If he plans to keep the car for long (say 5-10yrs), his feasible options are:
- used engine $15k all in
- rebuild engine $15-25k depending on level of rebuild
Otherwise second what Imre said
Would a roller with the crapped out engine in it be more or less desirable than a roller w/o the crapped out engine in it. After all, the core may be worth something.
Depends how much he likes the car. If he loooves it he could go electric, call Flat Six and go 3.8, LS swap or the donor motor routes.
If not then he could sell it as a roller for about $6k as mentioned or part it out and make more but that's a ton of work.
Sucks. Sorry to hear.
Several options on a rebuilt motor:RND,Vertex,MB Motorsports to name a few .Not sure what the total cost would be ,but three phone calls will start the ball rolling .
I expect the cheapest option to get it back on the road would be to find a used engine, swap all the parts and install. Expect to pay about $10K to $12K for a good used engine plus about $3K labour for the swap.
Sorry everyone for what I'm about to say, but Sneaky Pete you should stick to hammering 2x4's in your construction business instead of commenting about what I do. Knowing your personal culture is at a very low level, there is not much more to expect from a guy like you.
...while mechanics, on the other hand, are world renowned for their panache and social grace.
WTF?
Incidentally, prefacing something offensive with "sorry everyone for what I'm about to say" is about as effective as "no offense, but..." and "don't take this wrong, but..." - it doesn't make you any less of an a**hole for saying it.
Not sure attacking the membership is the way to go there grease monkey.
Dear everyone who has made a living in the Porsche aftermarket. Porsches, especially 911s, are luxury goods. Even the 996. No one NEEDS a 911. People want them and spend nonessential funds on them. But no one NEEDS one. That you know about and/or work on them doesn't make you special or super important. You aren't curing ****ing cancer. It's a car. A nice car. But it's a car. Get off your collective high horse.
Well that is some fine form there coming from RL sponsor looking for business.
Just observations for you to chew on:
You say most motors in Europe run on propane..what?
Cars in Europe suffer a worse climate then the car in North America...what?
You have a supply chain in Poland but your business is here
You have changed your companies name 3 count 'em 3 times in a short time span
You attack others because that's the only thing you know...quite pathetic
Us RListers know more about you than what you think you know of us
I see you are moving to Florida.....burn too many bridges in Chicago?
You have been using RL for about a year and gotten banned already. I have been here a little longer. Had my troubles with my 3.4 and got it fixed. Now I have a 4.0 that is something that you could only dream of creating. I have a hard time thinking anyone here would ever employ your services. Yes us RListers get in spats with each other and all is good......and you? You are a POS Douche if I ever saw one. Go **** up someone else's rope.
Have you forgotten your primitive comments about me in a different tread? You told me in Polish to kiss your American ***, those are your own words. Maybe you use this kind of language at your construction site everyday... Your language is primitive, yet you have no knowlege on the subject you talk about. You're JR's fan so I expect nothing else of you. I invite you to visit my FB, you will see how many people use my services. You don't know me and you don't know anything about me, that doesn't give you the right to post false comments about me or my business. Again, stick to your 2x4's and mind your own business dude. You're not my customer and never will be, so don't act like you know me.
My lord after reading this now you've become high brow Martin. I know all I need to know about you as does others here. Your 15 minutes of fame are due to end very soon.
To the rest of the RListers watching be advised of this character.
