I had to pay the dealer ~$700 to do an intake valve walnut-shell-blast on that car to get it to run right after ~60K miles.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

First track ride in the new Porsche 911 Carrera S
Porsche's landmark 911 Carrera S has got a turbocharged flat six engine for the first time. We ride in the revised car with a Porsche test driver
Full Story:
http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/mo...-911-carrera-s
While I have nothing against turbochargers and superchargers, the eventual move to every 911 having a turbo is going to make things that much more expensive once these cars get into our (i.e. the DIY enthusiast's) hands. The heat alone is going to eventually wreak havoc with the plastics and rubber in the engine bay...
I'm not sure where I'll look for my next "pure" sports car - so much of what's been sold in the last decade has overstuffed living room interiors with gadgets and touchscreens. The amount of sh*t that can go wrong is mind-boggling, and I'll bet that sourcing a working 2016 touchscreen 15 years down the road is going to be about as hard as finding a used M96 is today. My pop's new Merc has a ridiculous array of features - like user-selectable LED color lighting, and wireless headsets for each passenger seat so they can all listen to / watch their own thing. I can't even imagine what 10 or 15 years is going to do to some of those systems.
Maybe an FRS/BRZ - with the exception of the "BeSpoke" audio system, the interior is rather spartan, and there's a nicely developed aftermarket for making plenty of power...
Order for ours is placed... The first 6 months will be dedicated to ancillary bolt on developments and ECU work. Then the engine comes out and we'll see how big that 9a2/ 3.0 can go with Nickies!
Very excited to tear into the 9a2!
Maybe a supercharged "SC" version would have been a better spot to begin, resurrecting the "911SC" moniker from the past. I'm sure space was a factor in the decision to go w turbos.
Thanks for the link!
Umm not sure about this one -

This.
One other tidbit I noticed about the 9A2 - they moved the DFI fuel injector from the side of the combustion chamber to the top center of it, right next to the spark plug. One thing about the 9A1 is its relative immunity to severe carbon buildup on the intake valves. Hopefully Porsche did their homework on this because from what I understand, the Panamera/Cayenne DFI engines get carbon build-up pretty badly.
I had an N54-engined 335i before I got my 997.2. I had to pay the dealer ~$700 to do an intake valve walnut-shell-blast on that car to get it to run right after ~60K miles. Lotsa carbon build-up. I don't see how that job could be performed on a 911 without dropping the engine out of the car. $$$$$$
We see tons of issues with carbon build up in 9a1 engines.. Haven't seen one yet that wasn't coked up badly.
Looks like we are back to the 547 days in regard to dimpled cylinders...
The future is BRIGHT!
The guy in the article did say it could be taken to the track! Will your local dealer be on board with that?
Engine sound piped into the cabin - is the 991.1 the same way? Not that I'll be buying one, I'm not interested in the 991 in any case...
