They have a fuel injector cleaner and a regular Technron additive that they say can be used every 3000 mi or so.

The Turbo gets used the same way the Boxster gets used just less often.

It probably doesn't do much good, but I am thinking there can be some benefit for some cleaning agents in the fuel system.

As I have written before, I prefer to keep the engine free of deposits organically by using the car for more than short trips and burning a top tier gasoline.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Jack, et. al., I am going to add a bit of the Techron additive to the old gal. It probably doesn't do much good, but I am thinking there can be some benefit for some cleaning agents in the fuel system. Please give us your wise countenance on the benefits or downsides of using any additives to the fuel. I live in California and I am sure what kind of tree-hugging crazed formula we have to use out here. I use Chevron hi-test regularly.

Both,
Joe Cocker
With a Little Help from My Friends is the debut album by singer Joe Cocker, released in 1969. It was certified gold in the US and peaked at number 35 on the Billboard 200. In the UK, the album charted in May 1972 at number 29 when it was re-released as a double pack with Cocker's second LP Joe Cocker!.
The title track was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and originally performed by the Beatles on the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band; it has been inducted into both the Grammy Award Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[1] Cocker's version was the theme song to the television series The Wonder Years during the 1980s and 1990s.
What would you think if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
And I'll try not to sing out of key
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm gonna try with a little help from my friends
What do I do when my love is away?
(Does it worry you to be alone?)
How do I feel by the end of the day?
(Are you sad because you're on your own?)
No I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm I get high with a little help from my friends

Has anyone used BG 44K in their Porsche? Back around 1989 I worked as an electrical tech at a VW Dealership and I remember people bringing their cars in experiencing RPM hunt. They would give the person a can of 44K, tell them to fill up with 93 Octane gas then take it on the highway and red line it through the gears. I only remember one owner having to add it twice. After a tank of gas they brought the car back and using my Fluke Multimeter I would tune their injection.
If you run Chevron or Texaco premium your fueling system is getting Techron continuously and that should be more than sufficient to keep it clean. Shell's V-Power (premium) has an additive with similar chemistry to Techron. I have zero concerns running Chevron/Texaco, Shell or Exxon's fuels and don't see a need to use further additives.
IMHO, add a bottle of fuel additive only if you've been stuck in the boonies and had to run crap gas for a couple of tanks. Do add a fuel stabilizer if you're putting the car up for the winter however.
(Full disclosure: I work for one of the aforementioned oil companies, with a significant portion of my 30+ year career in the fuels manufacturing side of things. I use the recommended fuels exclusively. Plus I've had my 996's engine completely rebuilt--preemptively--and its intakes, valves and cylinders/pistons looked just fine. That's my experience, YMMV.)
Apologies to Jake (a brother Marines) but no apologies to Joe Cocker (but boy did I like his work). I actually liked his rendition better. But still interested in the board's attitude about additives. OBTW, RIP Joe, We miss you dog. Here's one of my Joe Cocker favorites:

In your case I think the Techron is unnecessary.
As I have written before, I prefer to keep the engine free of deposits organically by using the car for more than short trips and burning a top tier gasoline. A few months ago it was mostly Shell and I was using V-Power.
But when the Shell station inexplicably raised its prices I switched to a nearby Chevron station.
After a few tankfuls of Chevron gasoline the engine in my Boxster perked up some. It perked up like it had in the past after a longish drive of around 50 miles at highway speeds.
The Techron made a difference even though my usage didn't change.
Now I have to also add that I switched from Shell to Chevron with my 996 Turbo at the same time and I can't feel any difference. The Turbo gets used the same way the Boxster gets used just less often. It could be the Turbo engine is naturally a cleaner running engine and engine deposits are not as big a problem. Or the big miles on the Boxster contributes to engine deposit accumulation that Techron then addresses.
By running Chevron regularly your car's engine is probably as free of engine deposits as it can be.
Thus tipping in a bottle of Techron is probably not going to produce any benefit.
One of my favorites also. Joe didn't do many (any?) "Originals". But he made many works his with his interpretations and arrangements.
I use Techron in all of our cars and bikes at least once per year, doesn't seem to hurt. We use Shell mostly due to the discount card. It definitely helped with our 1984? VW Jetta.
