Between the two sets of tires I am anticipating getting good wear from both and I hope to be set on tires for quite a few more years.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been running Continental Extremecontact 18" for the past year. They came on the car and were basically brand new. The downside for me is that they are summer tires and I haven't been able to drive the car in Nashville since November. Anything below 50 degrees is very bumpy and slippy. Any temperatures below 40 degrees is near impossible and very hard on the the tires. In normal conditions I thought the ride was bumpy and direct. The racing folks would say that is road feedback. The wife didn't like it so much. I picked up a set of 996 17" rims from a member in the PCA club for a good price. Yesterday I got a set of Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 XL put on. First impressions driving it was a lot less lateral control. The 17" are narrower than the 18's. There is a lot more grip going around corners with the 18's. The ride is a lot more civilized in that it's quieter and less bumpy. Less road feedback as well. My wife said the ride was less sharp and more enjoyable. Less Mr. Toad's Wild Ride as she put it, and she likes Disney. For daily driving on the streets I think the 17" is a good choice. Without the 17's the car would be sitting for several more months, or I'd have to pay a huge amount for winter or all season 18" tires. Between the two sets of tires I am anticipating getting good wear from both and I hope to be set on tires for quite a few more years. Be encouraged folks, we drive 911's!

POST 2Original post

Nice, I like those 17 10 spokes and have been keeping an eye out locally for what seems like forever and they havent popped up. Id be happy to move on from my solid 18 twists to those. Unfortunately the alley that I park on now has 4-5 deep snow and ice ruts from our most recent melt/re-freeze/snow storm so a simple tire swap wont keep my 996 on the road any more this year. Glad to hear yours will though.
