"This is why ore- filling an oil filter on a freshly built, never fired engine is a bad idea, as you have an air filled system between the pump and the filter, and in the case of the M96, this is a long, complex pathway to have filled with air.

"People try to outsmart the scenario by filling the filter with oil, they don't know what they don't know, and that increases the priming time of the entire oil system by at least 2-3 X more than if the filter was installed dry.

First Start Up - Prefill Oil Filter or Not????

Suggestion

The reason for pre-filling the filter with The IMS Solution, is because the plain bearing rides on a film of oil - if you don't pre-fill the filter the bearing will be running dry for that much longer (the time it takes to fill the filter with oil)...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So all the instructions I've read about first starting on of our engines say NOT to prefull the oil filter. Example: From Raby: "This is why ore- filling an oil filter on a freshly built, never fired engine is a bad idea, as you have an air filled system between the pump and the filter, and in the case of the M96, this is a long, complex pathway to have filled with air. Doing this will dramatically increase the time it takes for the engine to achieve oil pressure, as the system can bleed the air quickly, and fill the filter quickly if the bleeding of the system occurs progressively. I do the same thing with aircooled engines that have large external oil systems, with coolers, and larger filters employed. "People try to outsmart the scenario by filling the filter with oil, they don't know what they don't know, and that increases the priming time of the entire oil system by at least 2-3 X more than if the filter was installed dry. Been there, done that, and compared it before." HOWEVER - Does this apply to engines with an IMS Solution installed? The instructions say to PRE-FILL the oil filter. Is this now recommended becuase the filter is in a different location? HELP

POST 2Original post

I dont understand this. If the filter is empty, theres still air in there that needs to be displaced.

POST 3Original post

The instructions with the IMS Solution would be for a scenario that was installed on a USED engine, not for a DRY/NEW engine.. They probably need to include two set of instructions for the two separate scenarios..

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's kinda what I was thinking. Thanks
