Also, there is special hell reserved for **** suckers who pull out to pass without checking their mirrors for cars passing them in the left lane.

I was driving my daily driver when an a&@hole in a 997 maybe a 2010 model cut me off, I felt so angry and helpless, but it was a different kind of anger.
I can see it in the other drivers as well. Is not the kind of I'm mad because the pick up truck or any other car cut you off. Just because he was driving a Porsche, I just relax play some music and later start thinking.
Well I own a 911, would he cut me off as well? Why I was so mad? Because it was a Porsche? But why? I have one as well? I wish I have John Ireland writing skills to express my emotions regarding this incident!!!!

I thought cutting people of and running stop signs/lights was a requirement in FL? Isn't it something like you have to cut at least 10 people off per mile?
That's what it seems like when I'm down there anyway...
The only requirement in Florida is to turn your left blinker on when leaving the garage, and leave it on the whole time your are driving. It's in the manual and it's the law.
997 owners = posers(who can't drive nor have manners)
996 owners = enthusiasts(which some can drive and may or may not have manners but often don't drive them like a douche due to fears of the IXX, lol)
Obviously necessity is the mother of invention. In order to address the pandemic of 997 owner rudeness I am writing (and will make available for to 996 owners at a reduced price) official 996 driver flash cards. These will cover all sorts of road rage situations...being cut off...tailgating...driving too slow...wearing overpriced athletic shoes named after NBA stars...not wear a vintage Rolex while changing gears...owning a Prius...leasing a Tesla... envying older and more mature men...etc. Never again will you have to let a 997 driver have the last word.
911 blue, how would you react to my comrade's driving?

Ireland? Home of the limerick??
There once was a man who drove a 996.
As everyone knows, drivers of all other Porsches are a bunch of big d*cks.
One day whilst driving on Highway 27,
He got cut off by an a-hole in a 997.
He got so upset that he had to tell everyone, and thusly proved himself to also be a pr*ck.
this is WHY you should ALWAYS be checking your rear view mirror! Just the other day, i could see this car darting in & out cars behind me & was on his way of passing the car in the other lane & then darting in front of me & i just Sped up & put a Stop to that Crap & needless to say he had to stay behind me the next mile or so just because i stayed the same speed as the car rite next to me!
Believe it or not my buddy that works for UPS told me that IF they are stopped at a red light & somebody hits them that they should have Avoided it because they should ALWAYS be looking in their side mirrors or around them to look for an accident BEFORE it happens! I think the same should apply to an everyday driver, you NEVER know when somebody could be texting & not even see you stopped! jmo!
I believe the 997's driving was an example of culturally relevant behavior. Down here being cut-off by another driver is actually a sign of respect and the attention provided to you by the 997 should have been lauded. In fact, it would have been a real problem if the person would have used their blinkers to alert you as that would have been a sure sign of cowardness and we would not want that on anyone's shoulders. The burden would be too much to tolerate.
JDjones your the driver that add/causes road rage, if your in the left lane (or any lane for that matter), get the hell over when someone is approaching faster than you, DO NOT stay in front and block them in. That pisses people off (including me)...for example, your a Doctor on call, trying to get to the ER to save someones life, ever wonder why many MD's get away with speeding, cops realize this.
You are not the police, let the ******* driving too fast pass you and get pulled over.
Or there is me, wanting to cruse at 90 (pretty typical in Michigan) with the flow of traffic (legal speed in Mi, is not the posted, but traffic flow) and 1 asshat decides to pull in front of the flow of traffic and stay next to a semi or something, holding everyone up.
What I don't understand are Semi's that pull to the left to pass other semi's before looking in their mirror and allow a train of cars to pass first as to not slow down traffic. I mean really, they can afford to wait a measely 5-10 sec until the stream of cars pass first.
I seem to notice this more in MI and IN for some reason...
Alpine your 100% right that annoys me to no end, or the 1 person in front, who slows down and allows the semi to pull in front (typically a hybrid of some sort, ie Prius).
What is really odd to me, on the Pa turnpike, semis in the far right doing 90! It is just crazy they drive that fast, but I wasn't complaining much, because they wouldn't hold up traffic much.
One group of drivers that annoy me are the passive/aggressive crowd that have some kind of an issue being passed by a Porsche. I had to deal with one of these idiots yesterday on I-70. Typically, they can be found cruising in the left lane at approximately 60 mph or less with a posted speed limit of 65 mph. When you come up behind them in the left lane, they eventually move over to allow you to pass. Once you begin to pass them in the left lane, they then speed up to 80 mph or more, not allowing you to easily pass. Once you do finally pass, then they quickly drop to 60 mph again. What's up with that???
Stunningly, there is ONE section of road - I5 south, from Capistrano down through Camp Pendleton to Oceanside, where people for some reason actually drive WELL. Speeds in the fast lane during non-rush-hour periods can average as high as 90, and people in the fast lane are well-behaved about moving over if they're obstructing faster-moving traffic.
I'm not sure why this stretch of road works so well when the rest of SoCal is a complete cluster, but I do appreciate it.
Those same trucks shouldn't be going 75-80mph and the reason why they feel the need to pass the semi in front. If they were all doing the speed limit, no need to be passing as much.
I live in central PA and make frequent trips to both Pittsburgh and Philly. I usually set the cruise control at 7 over the speed limit and have maybe never been passed by a semi (I suppose it has happened but I don't remember it). I think your experience is not typical.
I find it very revealing that a good number of drivers refer to the left lane as the "fast" lane when in fact driver training 101 refers to it correctly as the "passing" lane. No one, no matter how fast you are driving should be cruising in the passing lane....pass and get the f#@k over!
I guess on the left coast Prius drivers are true green love your Mother Earth types.
On the east coast they seem to be cheap skates that want to save money on gas while they drive back and forth to Miami. (that was not a racially insensitive remark directed at my relatives the Goldsteins that live in Miami). They are usually driving the fastest and doing the cutting off.
Back to the subject at hand, When I first got my 996 I was extra polite when driving because I didn't want to be considered the typical Porsche ***** (as I have stated on this forum before, my first gen Blackberry would autocorrect Porsche to *****). Now I'm addicted to the flat six roar in my ear so I'm probably more prickish.
Do we all wear old Rolexs? I bought a stainless steel Rolex years ago because I was mistaken on what watch Steve McQueen was wearing when he drove into Lemans in his 912. Seeing that movie when I was 11 warped me for life.
What about 4 way stops? I think it's true that in most States, if 2 cars approach a 4-way stop at the same time, the car on the right goes first.
However, in Scottsdale, it's a local law that the more expensive car goes first.
Thinking there is a miscommunication here. Are you saying you never got passed by a semi driving your semi or never got passed by a semi driving your car?
I was referring to semi's passing other semi's that are going the speed limit or slightly above.
No semi would ever pass me or I'd have to hand in my man card and my Porsche.
I thought you meant semis were passing you.
But having driven the motorhome to Florida and back, I'm here to testify on semis behalf. When you are going faster than something else that is big, you pass as soon as you can because if you dont you might not get to for miles and miles.
More importantly, once you lose momentum it can take time to get it back. Like driving a low powered car.
And to the extent you slow down a car for a couple miles, at the most, you are costing those people a few seconds of time in their travel and also who cares about them because they aren't you.
The most hated car in Massachusetts is an Honda Insight, Maine plate "MILEAGE". It hypermiles in the right lane of expressways @ 45 mph. I was pinned behind it for the longest 5 minutes of my life.
I agree with this but this is NOT how people drive in the midwest including both cars and trucks alike. They don't look ahead or plan and find themselves slowing down and following a slower car first and then they decide to just switch to the fast lane and just casually cruise by the slower car.
Annoys the hell out of me. No consistency whatsoever and a waste of gas, time, etc. for them and others.
Each state/territory has it's own motor vehicle operating codes. In some places it is not a passing lane. In others it is, but staying in the lane is not a ticket-able offense. In other's still it is, but it doesn't seem to be enforced like it was when I was growing up.
You're an IDIOT! You sound like you're a Ticking Time Bomb! Just like the guy that weaves In & Out of traffic NO MATTER if the person in front of you is going the posted speed limit! You REALLY Think JUST because your Speeding behind me I should get OUT of your Way (come on down to the Swamp & we'll Show you how we take care of Ticking Time Bombs)! Lol! You're driving a PORSCHE IDIOT, Slow Down & ACT like it! NOT like you're driving a Hybrid or a Prius & late for your Hamburger Technican Job @McDonalds!
Yes Sir Officer i know i was going 90 BUT the Legal Speed is according to the Traffic Flow NOT the POSTED SIGN! Lol! I Would LOVE to see the Look on the Officers Face when you Tell him THAT! IDIOT! Lol! What, are you 18 yrs. old?
Jd, you are wrong.
People that purposely block others are not decent people.
And, it is illegal, at least in WA state, to block someone in the left lane, no matter the speed.
It is people like you that cause a significant amount of road rage.
I agree. Illegal in CA, too.
And, like William stated, the legal speed is going with the flow of traffic. Today as I was driving through the county, the traffic average speed was 85-90 mph.
Someone driving in the fast lane at 55 would be much more likely to have been cited, as opposed to someone driving 85.
I think someone here on RL has a little Pruis owner hiding in their psyche, and is masking it by driving a Porsche.
Bold part haha?
Yes, if you see me coming behind you in the left lane with headlights and fog lights on at speed you need to GET THE **** OUT OF THE WAY. It is common courtesy and common sense.
********* who hog the left lane driving the speedlimit or pace the car in the right lane while being in the LEFT lane deserve nothing but road rage and repeated kick in the nuts. Also, there is special hell reserved for **** suckers who pull out to pass without checking their mirrors for cars passing them in the left lane.
If you don't have the skills or confidence to drive fast, stick to the right lane and let people pass you. In AZ, Interstates are open and empty outside the cities; with official limit at 75MPH; 90-100mph is acceptable and common.
I think that the old UK Highway Code had it pretty much spot on with one simple statement.
"Never drive in a manner which will cause other road users to change their speed or direction"
IMO, if you cannot at least drive at 80% of this guy's adrenaline, (or choose not to for whatever reason)...a Porsche just may not be for you. Having owned a handful of performance minded cars in my life, not one was spared (or crashed; knock on wood) of a run similar to this (maybe not for 10m though)...
IDK, I guess there are those who buy a Porsche because they want that "drive" and then there are those owners who want Beethoven @ 55mph. I won't argue, but PLEASE change lanes when we are coming up behind you...it's the right thing to do!
Don't mess around with the idiots. Dispatch them with an authoritative but polite and speedy pass. Don't dawdle, that's why the Porsche gods gave us a red line on the tachometer.
Kalash, NEVER Said i was ON the Highway OR Interstate! this was on the way to taking MY SON to SCHOOL in a 45MPH Zone! JUST SO YOU KNOW! And NO, i'm NOT one of these people that pokes along on the LEFT side of the road trying to SLOW down drivers on purpose! But, IF you Think going 60-70mph in a 45 zone is OK, ESPECIALLY close to a SCHOOL then there's NOTHING i can say to HELP you & YOUR Mighty 996 Except to maybe get out on the Interstate!
Vargas, I AGREE 100% IF you're on the HIGHWAY! I Promise you i'm Not one of those drivers that EVER stays in the Left lane EXCEPT to PASS, not sure how everybody thought i was one of these slo-pokes that stays in the left lane just to **** people off! Somewhere along the way, everybody just ASSUMED i was on the Highway or Interstate, it was a 45mph zone on the way to taking my son to school & i was in the H2 so i DON'T think he was going to Try & run over me!
I think I'll start a crowd funding project for a 996 50 cal mount. That should take care of the left lane hogs.
Prius left lane hogging is an area that the Pacific Northwest leads, see
https://www.facebook.com/LeftLanePrius
I really hope you are right. Your initial post specifically said that you "stayed at the same speed as the car rite(sic) next to me"
Regardless of the speed limit of the road, if you're on a multi lane road, why would you antagonize and encourage that sort of road rage behaviour?
I love the other car enthusiasts, Porsche and other, who understand how to drive at speed yet still be polite. No need to impress, and share a grin and a big thumbs up when eventually we end up side by side. The other guys? Hey, maybe they are having a bad day or whatever. I just smile and let them go. When I come upon a lane hog I just back off, too many people lose their lives on the roads as it is, there is no where that I need to be where a few minutes means life or death. Driving like a PIP (Pr*ck in a Porsche) or getting upset because I think others should drive differently just isn't worth it - and it just takes the joy out of the ride and my day.
Guys, ya'll are right cause nowdays people will shoot you for a lil' of Nuthin! But, roadsession Not Sure How you Got the Road Rage Behavior? He NEVER shot me the Finger & Screamed at me that i know of, he was just driving erratic in & out of traffic maybe JUST in a hurry to get to class! that DOESN'T mean he had ROAD RAGE!
Yup.
There was a lady this morning that I accidentally cut off in the Jeep, although she was going a bit faster than other traffic. Rather than slow down for me (I don't get why this is a big deal for some) she goes around and then almost runs into me as she goes back into my lane, while just about being boxed in by another car. It's not a race, I'm not in a hurry or want to get to work as fast as I can, it's not worth an insurance claim.
I also drive by the airport and give people a pass since they easily could be late for a flight - and believe me my driving abilities go up a bit when that happens to me. So again, no big deal.
Also, with the Porsche, bet you anything I'm going to be the one getting a ticket for speeding, and there really isn't a point. No big deal if someone wants to pass me, if someone is faster off the line (I'm working on that though). Not like I couldn't pass most anything out there, so just no real point in proving it. Again, just not worth the insurance claim or ticket.
IMO
